Job description

To pursue the settlement of costs as soon as practicably possible. It is important that the job holder can quickly We are seeking a Costs Draftsperson to support our growing technical costs team. The successful candidate will deal with and negotiate costs on a range of matters primarily for commercial litigation cases both defending and recoveries.

The job holder will be responsible for providing a cradle to grave service including the drafting, as required, of Budgets, oints of Dispute, Bills and Schedules of Costs and other formal documents. In addition, providing costs advise throughout the life of the main action, and building relationships with both internal and external clients.

The role is an agile role with 1 day per week in one of the following offices- Liverpool, Bolton or Manchester or Coventry

Compensation package

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for management of own caseload using in-house case management system including timely and accurate maintenance of the system along with billing and management information - ensuring completeness of records in order to aid business decision making.

  • Drafting costs schedules, bills, proceeding through costs litigation if necessary; Preparing points of dispute and considering replies
  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses and preparing a document to reflect this
  • Preparing cost strategy reports
  • Negotiating costs settlement
  • Dealing with correspondence and telephone calls
  • Provide written updates by email or letter to clients detailing case activity to ensure that they receive up to date and accurate information about progress when requested
  • Instruct Counsel or Costs Lawyer to attend Detailed Assessment or alternatively conduct own advocacy

Working Hours

35 hours per week Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. This role can be based in Liverpool, Bolton, Manchester or Coventry

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • 2 years’ experience as a minimum in a similar Costs Draftsperson role either claimant or defendant
  • Previous experience of client liaison
  • Experience of preparing Points of Dispute and considering replies
  • Experience of preparing Bills and Schedule of Costs
  • Experience of drafting Budgets
  • Previous experience of handling own caseload
  • Have an understanding of the Detailed Assessment process, Cost Case Laws and Insurance Litigation practice & process
  • Proficient IT skills.

Desirable:

  • Education - Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD
  • Experience of, and ability to conduct own advocacy.
