Salary: G £30,835 - £33,945 a year

Hours: 37 hours a week

Are you an experienced Counter Fraud Investigator looking to join a successful investigation team?

We are seeking an experienced Counter Fraud Investigator to join us.


If you are a determined skilled professional with excellent communication skills we are looking for you.

Working in a fast paced environment you will manage a varied caseload including tenancy fraud cases. You will work directly with internal departments and our partner agencies to provide a first class response to fraud referrals and deliver targeted results.
You will work on your own initiative and with team members on pro- active projects to prevent and detect fraud.

Derby City Council is keen to raise awareness of fraud to protect the public purse. You will be expected to play an active role to support this initiative and seek opportunities to promote and develop the work of the team.

The Opportunity


In the role of Counter Fraud Investigator, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
You will play a significant role in protecting the public purse.
You will be supporting the Council’s zero tolerance to fraud.
You will be working with our partners including the Department for Work and Pensions to maximise effectiveness.
You will support a wide range of Counter Fraud initiatives to ensure the Council is resilient to fraud.

About You


To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…


Experience of investigating fraud, managing own work and performance to deliver outcomes to agreed timescales.

Extensive knowledge of legislation relating to the investigation and prosecution of offenders including the Fraud Act 2006, Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013, LCTRS (Fraud and Enforcement (England)) Regulations 2013 and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

An Accredited Counter Fraud professional qualification or equivalent.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to people.

An excellent understanding of local government legislation and policy in relation to Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit/Support and discounts, tenancy, NNDR, Right to Buy, Local Welfare Provision (Local Assistance Scheme) and other areas where fraud may be committed.

Experience of analysing information and report writing and competent in the use of IT systems.

Knowledge and awareness of the Equality Act 2010 and how it applies to the post and be able to ensure that equality issues are identified, promoted and managed in all areas of work.

An understanding of the benefits of diversity and demonstrating how to promote opportunity.

Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

A full driving licence is a requirement of this post.
