What it's like to work here:Leading a team of six Rangers you’ll be supported by property and consultancy colleagues. This includes Estate Manager, Farming Advisor, Ecologist, wider portfolio team in particular our Head Gardener as part of the outdoor leadership team contributing to and supporting the delivery of the vision for the outdoors.
You’ll be based at Gibside reporting to our General Manager and be part of the collaborative leadership team at Derwent, Wear and Coast portfolio. The leadership team support each other to deliver property objectives, to ensure the wider team work collaboratively together to provide visitors with a great experience.

- work closely with our Head Gardener and Property Operations Manager to lead and take responsibility for safety and compliance
- work at a strategic level to lead and deliver our plans to enhance the landscape, whilst balancing this with growing demand from our supporters to access and enjoy the outdoors play a lead role in managing and improving access, delivering conservation projects and engaging with our visitors in the outdoors. Given the changes to how people use the outdoors you’ll review how your team operates to ensure we are best placed to engage.
- Leadership: including team development, delivering change, producing work plans, training and working with volunteers
- Excellent communication skills with experience in partnership management
- Nature: a strong understanding of nature conservation and access management
- Visitor experience: you’re passionate about connecting people and place and appreciate the importance of access, interpretation and engagement
- Financial: confidence in managing budgets, projects, finances, income generation and contracts
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements and other compliance issues relating to the countryside and visitor activities
- A driving licence.
