Court Usher

The role

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated person to act as a Court Usher in the Cheshire Coroner’s Court.

You will attend court with the Coroner and be responsible for the smooth running of the court at inquest hearings. You will greet attendees and ensure that all witnesses are present and that everybody is seated appropriately in court on time.

In inquests when the Coroner is sitting with a jury you will be responsible for administrative arrangements at court in relation to the jurors.

You will be responsible for operating the court recording equipment at all inquest hearings.

When not in court, you will perform a number of various administrative tasks as appropriate to the role working closely with the administration team, Coroner’s Officers and Coroners. Experience of working in an office environment and the use of software packages is desirable.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as tact and compassion, as you will be dealing with bereaved families, professional witnesses and members of the public.

The courts are located at Museum Street, Warrington, Cheshire, WA1 1JX.

**This is a permanent variable hour contract position and you will only work on days when the court is sitting.**

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
