Cross Site Interim Lead Cancer Manager - must have experience working in Oncology

Location: This would be Cross Site between Worthing, Chichester and Brighton

Job Type: Temporary

Duration of booking: 3 - 6 months

Proposed start date: ASAP

Sector: Healthcare

Base: Hospital, 3 days on site, 2 days remote

Band: 8B

Pay Rates:

£27.00- £31.00 paye per hour

£31.00 - £36.00 paye inclusive of holiday pay per hour

£35.00- £41.00 umbrella per hour

All depending on skill and experience

Working Days and Hours: : 37.5 hours per week

Job Purpose:

The post holder will provide operational leadership and management to the department working in partnership with other members of the Divisional Management Team. The post holder will promote effective governance and ensure that the highest standard of clinical care is delivered. They will be responsible for ensuring all clinical and non-clinical performance indicators, targets and objectives are met. The role entails contributing to the development, delivery and translation of Divisional and Trust clinical service strategies, corporate and divisional objectives and the development and implementation of business plans and service developments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to and support the management of a Divisional Assurance framework to meet the integrated performance metrics required by the Division and Trust with respect cancer delivery. Ensure information is collected, critically evaluated and analysed, some of which is of a highly complex nature and use this to determine and shape strategy and support wider divisional colleagues in the improvement of cancer provision.
  2. providing both challenge and support in equal measure.
  3. Lead in assessing the capacity and demand for services by regularly monitoring demand and productivity seeking to ensure patient flows through the system are safe, effective and deliver high quality outcomes & performance working with the Operational and Professional Leaders within the Division.
  4. Lead the design andimplementation of a robust Performance Management reporting system for the Directorate, to support the services
  5. Support the investigation of complaints/incidents/PALS enquiries and near misses and ensure that issues arising from the investigation are suitably addressed and also used as an opportunity to improve and learn within services.
  6. Contribute to the formulation, planning and development of long-term Strategic and Operational Business Plans for specific clinical and non-clinical areas
  7. Support and lead improvement projects
  8. Develop strategies that underpin the Trust’s strategic objectives, to progress the planning and implementing of these.
  9. Underpin the planning, delivery and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives within the designated departments and areas within the remit of this post.
  10. Lead on the service improvement/change management work of the Division on agreed specific projects.
  11. Ensure the effective delegated budgetary management and the budget setting for all departments and services in conjunction with the service leads in each department, producing robust CIP plans are ensuring these are delivered and resources utilised cost-effectively.
  12. Pro-actively manage and develop income generating activity by ensuring all coding and booking systems are well managed.
  13. Ensure there are robust systems in place for receiving and acting on patient experience and feedback, leading on the resolution of Divisional wide or highly complex complaints or issues as required.
  14. Contribute to the Divisional systems of governance (clinical, financial, staff, audit and information) and risk management ensuring appropriate processes are in place and maintained with regular reports.
  15. Ensure comprehensive risk assessments are completed regularly and that active management of the risk register is a mandatory theme at service meetings.
  16. Take decisive and timely action to address areas of poor performance, under-achievement, and risk, including leading on specific recovery and improvement work across a range of services where appropriate.
  17. Develop robust workforce and training plans that support the Division’s clinical strategy and annual plan.

Essential skills, qualification, and experience:

  • Educated to master’s degree level or able to demonstrate experience to this level
  • Extensive up to date knowledge of the NHS and cancer targets.
  • Experience in a senior management role
  • Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance initiatives
  • Experience of engagement with workforce colleagues where you have driven strategic plans forward to the point of delivery, establishing clear work priorities, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
  • Knowledge and understanding of National Development Strategies and delivery of NHS Healthcare services.
  • Knowledge understanding of Clinical Governance and risk management systems.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands.
  • Lead in assessing the capacity and demand for services, regularly monitoring productivity to ensure patient flows through the system (diagnostic, RTT and cancer) are safe
  • Working to develop CIP plans to ensure services are delivered and resources utilised cost-effectively in collaboration with divisional leadership team.
