Job description
Driving, loading, unloading and transportation of trolleys and equipment cross-site for the Centralised Sterile Services Department (CSSD). Ensuring the transportation of trolleys and equipment is done in a safe and timely manner. Carry out required checks of the vehicle before and after use and to report any faults. Comply with the departmental ISO Work Instructions and Procedures Manual regarding the sterilisation of reusable medical devices.
Operation of decontamination equipment including washer disinfectors and sterilisers, as and when required, in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions. Storing, handling, stock control and release of sterile/disinfected product. CSSD portering duties as and when required. Receipt/checking/inspection of loan kits as and when required.
Completion of all documentation relating to the drivers role and departmental ISO quality system. Follow protocols for safe working including PPE, hand washing, spillages, accidents, untoward incidents, use of chemicals (COSHH) and contaminated equipment. Use of computerised traceability system to enable trays of instruments and endoscopes to be tracked through the decontamination process. Effective communication within the department and with departmental customers.
Follow the departmental and trust policies for the disposal of waste. Training of other staff in the departmental process and procedures as and when required. Work within the departmental ISO Work Instructions and Procedures Manual. Observe safe working practices in accordance with Health & Safety Policies and Departmental Risk Assessments and report any incidents/accidents.

Control of Infection Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To complete annual training/updates in infection prevention and control. Communication and Working Relationships Internal CSSD Colleagues, supervisors and managers, Theatre/ward staff and sisters and departmental managers via telephone/face to face.
External Dealing with external departmental customers queries and requests. The most challenging part of the job To ensure processed equipment and instrumentation reach the various customers in the highest level of quality and in line with the trust and departmental ISO policies and procedures.
