Job description

Clinical/ Communication To project manage the work in quality improvement for health equity in cancer care in Bradford. To utilise effective, sensitive and compassionate communication skills with a range of professional and non-professional adults both individually and in groups to elicit and develop a set of cultural competencies. To communicate effectively with patients receiving cancer treatment in a highly sensitive manner. Frequently, communication requires discussion about highly emotive issues such as adjustment to diagnosis, loss, emotional regulation, death and dying. To work as an effective, integrated member of relevant multi-disciplinary teams. To disseminate findings from the quality improvement project to a variety of audiences in a range of settings. Teaching, training and supervision 1. To participate in regular clinical supervision. 2. To develop systematic learning and development opportunities for other members of the clinical health psychology service as required. To provide advice, consultation and training medical and nursing staff using effective communication skills and multi-media presentations Research and service evaluation To interpret, evaluate and implement findings from previous research in cultural competencies to support the project To collect, analyse and evaluate data relevant to the quality improvement project To participate in Clinical Health Psychologys Clinical Governance activities. General To evaluate and make decisions about project interventions, training models, and evaluation methods To organise own timetable in line with project timeline To follow the policies of the Department of Clinical Health Psychology. To maintain the highest standards of clinical and non-clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with policies and procedures of the Trust and other relevant agencies. To ensure that information written in medical records is timely and appropriate. To use computer software to develop or create reports, documents or materials for presentations. To participate in meetings. To ensure careful use of all department facilities and resources. To contribute to the development and maintenance of high professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external continuing professional development training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holders line manager. To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice healthcare and contribute across the service by exercising the skills of a reflexive and reflective practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field To manage workload to meet the departmental targets for the post. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to the specific client/patient population. To participate in the Clinical Health Psychology Department staff appraisal process and departmental meetings. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The post holder is professionally and managerially accountable to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist or Head of Department. The post requires liaison with a range of people from professional and non-professional groups including health, education, social services and voluntary sector personnel and members of other agencies SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS The role involves occasional exposure to aggressive individuals, making domiciliary visits in unpleasant conditions, and driving for community visits. Professional Registration N/A Health and Safety/Risk Management The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts Risk Incident Reporting System. Training and Personal Development Continuous Professional Development The jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role. Patient and Public Involvement All staff will be expected to comply with S.242 of the NHS Act 2006. Respect for Patient Confidentiality The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. This includes a requirement to maintain a safe, clean and tidy work environment and to complete mandatory Infection Prevention and Control Training as provided by the Foundation Trust. All clinical staff must ensure rigorous and consistent compliance with standard infection control precautions including Hand hygiene, dress code and use of personal protective equipment and other clinical care policies and protocols applicable to infection prevention and control. Employees are required to challenge poor performance or poor practice in relation to infection prevention and report any breaches using relevant Trust procedures such as the Incident reporting system. Safeguarding Children and Adults All employees have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults including but not limited to patients, members of the public and colleagues. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate level of training in accordance with our safeguarding policy training strategy and that they are aware of and work within the safeguarding policies of the Trust which are available on the Trust intranet pages.
