Curriculum Area Manager for Health, Social Care and Social Work

  • Location: Yeovil
  • Reporting to: Assistant Principal
  • Salary: up to £56k
  • Type: Full-time

Dovetail and Slate are recruiting on behalf of a leading education provider based in Yeovil.

Job Purpose
  • Provide highly effective curriculum leadership and ensure that the standards for the quality of education are the highest in the sector.
  • Accountable for the health and safety in their area, control of budgets, leadership and performance management of staff and other resources and will ensure the effective delivery of a high-quality learning experience for students.
  • Responsible for achieving performance targets in relation to the recruitment of learners and the retention and achievement of those learners.
  • Collaborate with all relevant stake holders (e.g., healthcare providers, social care, social work, educational, representative bodies etc) to help ensure that the curriculum meets industry skills needs and enables learner needs to progress into the career, further F.E. or H.E. of their choice.
Main Duties
  • Be fully accountable for the development of a curriculum plan for the area and develop, regularly review, and monitor this plan to ensure it is consistent with the College mission, strategic objectives, government priorities and local/regional needs.
  • Ensure that all courses are appropriately funded and resourced and that all data is accurate for your area and that the data meets the needs of internal and external requirements.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other managers and key staff across the team to deliver the curriculum.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient deployment and performance of staff, consistent
  • with skills/expertise, contractual conditions, college policies and procedure and the collective agreement.
  • Ensure effective processes and systems for team communication and plan in accordance with the management calendar.
  • Ensure that staff appraisals occur in a timely manner in line with college policies and that all staff have a personal development plan.
  • Adhere to the college protocols in the timetabling of learning with a focus on learner needs.
  • Provide innovative leadership in terms of teaching and learning and quality, to ensure new teaching strategies and best practice are utilised across the Curriculum Area.
Additional Duties
  • Manage efficiently the use of appropriate performance indicator data (e.g., in year retention, attendance etc) to further enhance the performance of the area and acting in relation to this as necessary.
  • Manage academic submissions as necessary, for validating and awarding bodies.
  • Ensure the learner's progress is monitored and that Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are in place for all learners.
  • Actively pursue continuous quality improvement consistent with college policies and the quality manual and lead on in-year reviews for the area.
  • Produce a rigorous self-assessment report and associated quality improvement plan for the Curriculum Area and monitor the actions and outcomes of the Operational Plan.
  • Monitor in year performance data and academic performance trends within the area, set targets and report to SMT and governors as required.
  • Manage internal audit teams, formative, and summative internal verification, implementing and monitoring systems of quality management with respect to the delivery of the programmes.
  • Work closely with the Head of Student Services and Personal Tutors to implement the College's tutorial, retention, absence and lateness policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Teaching qualification
  • Level 2 English and Maths
  • Knowledge of current developments across vocational, technical and apprenticeship provision
  • Relevant experience in at least one the Curriculum Areas
  • Ability to demonstrate successful leadership of diverse curriculum teams
  • Ability to develop an understanding of the usage of data to monitor and improve performance
  • Relevant vocational qualification in at least one of the subject areas within this curriculum at level 3 or higher
  • Highly motivated to work with children, young adults, and vulnerable adults
  • Desire to put the learner first and continuously improve the learner experience
