Job description

We are seeking a new member of our Adult Education Curriculum Management team with specific responsibility for Essential Skills (ESOL, Literacy and Maths, Employability Skills, Essential Digital Skills and IT (Level 2 and below, and MFL). You will work as part of the adult education development and implementation team to ensure the delivery of high quality provision that supports Mary Ward's strategy and meets the need of learners. Person Specification for the post of Curriculum ManagerEssential Skills    Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the following essential experience, knowledge and skills and abilities. Experience Substantial experience of adult education and an appreciation of how it impacts positively on people’s lives Proven commitment to high standards in teaching and learning and experience of managing quality improvement processes, including Self-Assessment Management experience in an educational context which demonstrates excellent leadership skills and an ability to motivate and manage a diverse staff team Experience of successfully developing and managing both accredited and non-accredited programmes, with a creative approach to curriculum design, development and evaluation Experience of managing specialist resources and equipment and promoting health and safety Experience of managing projects and delivering outcomes to a set time table and budget A high degree of expertise, flair and competence in one of the subject areas delivered within the department and an enthusiasm and interest for the other subjects Experience of working in partnership with voluntary and community organisations to promote engagement and widen participation Experience of  managing programmes for students with low levels of literacy, numeracy or those with specific learning difficulties. Knowledge An understanding of the needs of adult learners and the issues which may affect their learning Insight into current issues and developments relating to adult education and the impact they might have on curriculum content and delivery A broad understanding of the Education Skills Funding Agency’s and Greater London Authority funding methodology and its implications for the department Significant experience of adult education teaching and a thorough knowledge of good practice in teaching and learning An understanding of and commitment to the implementation of equal opportunities within an educational setting An understanding of how ILT/eLearning impacts on teaching and learning and enthusiasm for its development and promotion. Skills and Abilities A capacity to plan strategically, and at the same time to be able to be flexible and pragmatic in order to achieve strategic goals An ability to analyse data and use it to inform judgments and decisions within the department Ability to plan, prioritise, make and take tough decisions, multi-task and keep to deadlines A team player with commitment, enthusiasm and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work productively with staff groups and co-operate/liaise with outside agencies Commitment to developing staff through training as individuals and in their teams A confident and effective ICT/ILT user, with the ability to manage the purchase and maintenance of IT equipment used for teaching and learning.
