Job description

You will be joining two vibrant & creative areas!

Within the music department your duties & responsibilities would be, booking equipment & spaces for staff & students using the system we have developed, preparing, and delivering workshops for the students around the music equipment, setting up the spaces for staff, fixing/maintaining equipment and booking venues where appropriate.

In Performing Arts your duties & responsibilities would be to assist in the preparation for shows, including using and maintaining the lighting desk, programming it, and working at heights to move the lights where appropriate. Setting up the sound system, setting up and monitoring the radio mics during rehearsals and performances. Compiling music and or sound effects in an appropriate format for the shows. Workshops demonstrating how to use the equipment to the students and liaise with rights holders to secure performance rights to musicals and plays.

Dual responsibilities include, creating risk assessments for the subject specific rooms, raising purchase orders, ordering equipment, compiling the capital bids, including obtaining quotes, using a variety of college systems.

Key Duties:

  • Maintain, order and replenish supplies for the work area.
  • Set up, repair and monitor location of all equipment and manage specialist rooms and classrooms assigned to area.
  • Prepare resources for teaching purposes.
  • In the absence of teaching staff, help to supervise student classes.
  • Ensure students are complying with health and safety and notify teacher where concerns arise.
  • Monitor safety of students in practical workshop environment
  • Cleaning and tidying away of resources.
  • Accompanying students and teachers on external visits
  • Carry out routine and non-routine maintenance activities associated with the work area.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the specific curriculum area
  • Comply with all codes of good practice associated with the work area (for example Animal Welfare, Safeguarding, financial regulations etc)
  • Demonstrate specialist equipment to students.
  • Carry out health and safety risk assessments.

Required Skills: 

  • Ideally experience within technical theatre as well as music technology essential.
  • PASMA trained essential.
  • Ability to solder, essential.
  • Proficient in Logic, Pro Tools & Q-Lab essential.
  • Good communicator organised and proactive desirable.
  • Teaching qualification desirable
