Job Introduction

Role Purpose

 Do you have a passion for Active Travel and want to make a positive difference to people in your community?  We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join the BCP Council Sustainable Transport Team. 

 

BCP Council is making great strides to improve conditions for people walking, wheeling and cycling, and we need another keen and proactive person to join our team and keep progressing this important and exciting work.  We have had lots of success in securing significant grant funding in recent years from Active Travel England and the Department for Transport, and have lots of exciting projects underway. 


Main Responsibilities

As a Cycling and Walking Officer at BCP Council you will help encourage and enable our residents, including children, to use active modes of travel to get about, reducing private car use and helping to meet our climate goals.  You will play a big part in our delivery of projects such as School Streets and Bikeability training, as well as helping identify improvements that need to be made to our active travel network.  You will also provide help and advice to colleagues and members of the public on matters related to walking, wheeling and cycling Together we will make the BCP Council area a great place for travelling actively. 


The Ideal Candidate

Successful applicants will: 

 

  • Be proactive, highly motivated and keen to get on and make positive changes for our communities. 
  • Have experience of travelling actively and understand the barriers that get in the way of people walking, wheeling or cycling everyday journeys. 
  • Be a great communicator, confident talking to a wide range of people and enjoy collaborating with others to get results. 


Your work will mainly be office-based, in a flexible hybrid working model working from home and the BCP Council Civic Centre.  There will also be visits to schools and other sites across the BCP Council area, and you will be encouraged to travel actively as much as possible.

This is expected to be in place in 2024.
