Job Details

An enthusiastic Herdsperson is required to join our small team (a total of 3 permanent staff plus relief workers) at our purpose-built dairy unit in North Nottinghamshire. The closed herd of 250 autumn calving pedigree Holsteins are cubicle housed producing 10250, litres/ cow grazing from March to October.
A proportion of our milk goes into making Stichelton, a raw milk cheese produced on-site and raw milk sold in The Welbeck Farm Shop, both of which require milk to be produced to the highest  standard.
We are part of a large Estate totalling 15000 acres, the Estate is also home to a variety of other in-hand business and education facilities plus other tenanted businesses working from the estate.
The successful applicant will be required to feed using a Keenan mixer with pace box, carry out afternoon milking through a 20/40 GEA parlour, AI, foot trimming and will be involved in the breeding strategies, pasture management and day-to-day management of the herd.  We work heavily on prevention rather than cure - working closely with our vets and with Nottingham University on data analysis. They will also be expected to deputise for the Herd Manager when required and carry out some night checks.
