Job description

Lincoln College invites applications for a five-year, non-renewable, Darby Fellowship in Modern History with effect from 1 September 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter, until 31 August 2029. This post is intended to provide a career development opportunity for a scholar in the early stages of an academic career. Applicants should have recently obtained or to be about to obtain a doctorate in some aspect of Modern History, and should have some experience of teaching History at university level. Consideration will be given to teaching quality and to research achievement and potential. Preference may be given to researchers in the area of British history post-1815. Under the College Statutes, elections to Fellowships are for a probationary year in the first instance. Thereafter, the appointment will be tenable for a further four years and will not be renewable. The Darby Fellowship is a full-time post where the postholder will be required to provide, for Lincoln College, tutorial teaching in Modern History for eight contact hours per week averaged across the three 8-week terms of the academic year. The postholder will also be a member of the Governing Body of, and a Trustee of, the College. Salary and allowances: Salary: £41,732 in year 1 rising by annual increments to £46,975 in year 5 (points 34-38 on the national scale). If the Fellow lives out of College, a housing allowance of £4,940 will be provided; full Common Room rights, hospitality credit, access to the College Research and Equipment Funds and membership of the USS pension scheme.
