About Refugee Action

Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of empowering people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. We do this by providing expert advice and casework, building the capacity of partner organisations and campaigning on the policies that affect them.

About the role

As our brand-new Data & Insight Lead, you'll provide insight on Refugee Action’s impact, inform strategic thinking and decision making, and lead data change projects. Your work will be a mix of direct support to the delivery teams and Supporter Database team, improving and adapting our client database, leading on improvement projects, and producing high quality analytics.

This role is ultimately responsible for demonstrating Refugee Action’s impact to enable us to make the case for greater investment for people seeking safety in the UK. This is a pivotal moment to join Refugee action as we fight to end the hostile environment, and we are looking for a passionate and motivated individual to step up and take the lead in this impactful role.

To succeed in the role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Commitment to removing barriers to power for people with lived experience, and commitment to anti-racist practices.
  • Understanding of how the UK’s hostile refugee protection and asylum system impacts those affected by it.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with people from a range of different cultures.
  • The ability to create and implement a clear data strategy and move between strategic thinking and operational delivery and to lead on both.
  • Experience leading and managing a data analysis and insights team, coaching individuals to reach their goals and objectives.
  • Experience designing and/or managing information systems, processes and analytical tools for evaluation and impact reporting purposes to inform funder reports, service delivery, strategy, systems and ways of working.
  • Strong statistical analytical skills with the ability to make connections between data, identify trends and highlight problems, with solid experience with data-handling tools, including client databases and analytics. Experience of working with Power BI and SQL is preferable.
  • Experience of providing reports and presenting information in an engaging and accessible way, in a variety of formats and for a range of audiences (including funders and senior managers).
  • Experience of, and ability to, manage multiple stakeholders, effectively influencing across varying stakeholder groups and their multiple interests and demands.
  • Excellent data management and numeracy skills, including the ability to run statistical analysis, to use Excel at an intermediate or advanced level, to identify trends and to visualise results.
  • Knowledge of data quality approaches, data management and storage, with the ability to drive improvements across a team, while operating within an organisational framework.
  • Solid organisational and planning skills and the ability to work calmly and confidently under pressure, managing multiple and varied projects and areas of activity, to prioritise one's workload and to proactively solve problems.
  • The ability to focus, to pay close attention to detail and to produce work that is thorough and of high quality.
  • A collaborative, pro-active team player who is keen to learn and develop within the role.

Those with lived experience as a refugee are particularly encouraged to apply.

Closing date: 23:59 on 3rd March 2024

Interviews: 19th March 2024 (on Zoom)
