Data Center Transformation Consultant

Your new company
Our client is looking for an experienced data specialist who has valid SC clearance to lead a critical project involving the replacement of existing production systems with newer models.
Your new role
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining data integrity and minimising downtime. The role is split into the following:
System Replacement:

• Replace existing DD9800s (data protection storage appliances) with the latest models, DD9900s.
• Acquire and integrate six additional zSeries mainframes to enhance the production environment within the new PLE (Production Lifecycle Environment).

Data Lifecycle Management:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement MTree splitting over a six-month period.
• Introduce the new DD9900s using the ProDeploy method.
• Gradually copy data from existing DD9800s to the new DD9900s (expected duration: 1-2 months).

Infrastructure Transition:

• Power off existing DLMs (Data Lifecycle Managers) and DDs (Data Domains).
• Disconnect the old DD9800s and connect the new DD9900s to the DLMs.
• Execute system testing (anticipate a 4-hour outage during this phase).

Resource Requirements:

• Assemble a team of three specialists with expertise in:
• Mainframes
• Data Lifecycle Management (DLMs)
• Data Domains (DDs)

Work Approach:

• Expect intense activity during critical phases.
• Followed by tedious periods as data is copied and systems are reconfigured.
• Conclude with more intense activity during testing.
• Note that the replication process won't require full-time attention.

Final Transition:

• Schedule the transition during out-of-office (OOO) weekends to minimise impact.

What you\'ll need to succeed

• Proven experience of managing Data Center Transformations.
• Familiarity with mainframes, DLMs, and DDs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
