Job description

UCL’s Department of Information Studies, in collaboration with the International Public Policy Observatory (IPPO) and Dept of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP), wishes to recruit five Data for Policy Fellows to deliver capacity-building and analytical activities with local government partners. We are seeking self-motivated and collaborative individuals to build a team for the exciting opportunity of exploring the socio-technical potential for enhancing comparative local data across the UK. These roles will work with a local government partner authority to lead a specific local data project. They will also support place-based approaches to policy interventions in alignment with the Government Statistical Service’s (GSS) subnational data strategy. The team will work together to identify transferable data practices, ensuring longevity and ethical integrity. All fellows are expected to understand existing activities and evidence to work collaboratively with partners to increase their capability, motivation, and opportunity to use evidence. They will receive support to methodologically collate existing evidence on program and practice effectiveness to curating high-quality evidence with a focus on transparency and robustness. Focus topics relevant to the local partners’ capability needs will be agreed in post. Examples of potential topic areas include: i) Decarbonisation of Buildings; ii) Future-proof local skills; iii) Place-based Health (esp. youth and children) and iv) Local transport infrastructure (esp. active travel). This project is part of an ESRC-funded and IPPO-led programme partnership with the support of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). The salary for this role either a grade 6 (£34,605 - £39,980) or grade 7 (£42,099 - £43,205), depending on skills and experience. It is a six-month contract until September 2024 in the first instance.
