We have an opportunity for a Metadata Governance Consultant to join YBS’ Data Division to shape, define, lead and apply data and metadata processes and standards.

It’s an exciting time to join us, you’ll support the development and approach to capturing, documenting, assuring, sharing and promoting the Society’s data sets via the Enterprise Data Catalogue. You’ll join a likeminded and growing team in our Leeds based team with the flexibility of hybrid working.

About the role

We’re on a journey to transform YBS into a modern, data-driven organisation - as a result we’re looking for a Metadata Governance Consultant (internally known as a Data Governance Consultant) to join our Leeds based Metadata Governance team. As our new Metadata Governance Consultant, you’ll be a key member and important intermediary between the data owners, data consumers and the data teams. You’ll deliver governance and improve traceability for data used throughout the business, driving towards one Single Version of Truth

You will use your technical data and metadata management skills to lead and/or assist in defining, executing, communicating, and governing metadata management standards and processes relating to disciplines such as data cataloguing, data lineage, the Data Dictionary, descriptive metadata, and the Business Glossary

You must be a strong team player, an effective communicator, adept at stakeholder management, with a methodical approach to problem solving. You might come from a technical leaning Data Governance, data steward, data analysis, data modelling/designer, database administration, BI background, or similar

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities describe the Metadata Governance Consultant role remit as a whole, at a high-level. You will not be expected to lead on all responsibilities those disciplines you do not lead on will be led by other Metadata Governance Consultants within the team, with support from yourself. A good understanding of, and experience in, some/all of the following Metadata Governance disciplines would be highly advantageous as you will be expected to offer support in these areas if required:

  • Defining, communicating, executing, governing, and evolving data and metadata management standards, processes, and maturity maps to ensure YBS data and associated metadata is socialised, standardised, understood, trustable, useful, traceable, ethical, compliant, and governed
  • Advising data directorate colleagues and the business on data and metadata management best practice
  • End-to-end documentation of technical data lineage
  • Documenting descriptive metadata, including Data Dictionary definitions, data ownership, reference data values, data types, constraints, sensitivity/regulatory markers etc.
  • Building out and evolving the Business Glossary to establish a bank of common enterprise-wide Business Glossary Terms - standardising and rationalising definitions where necessary, managing assurance and sign-off processes with Data Stewards (including management of a working group to facilitate this)
  • Leading and chairing meetings, workshops and working groups to analyse, discuss, evolve, improve, and govern data and metadata management, as required
  • Management of the enterprise data catalogue, including supplier relationship management, planning and delivery of enterprise-wide comms, roll out, and training
