Data Privacy Manager 

Location: Walsall, West Midlands 

Salary: £58,298 - £61,202 

The Vacancy  

Location: Walsall, West Midlands – Hybrid working – Minimum two days in office however could be more depending on needs of the business 

Contract:  Permanent, 37 hours per week

Data has never been more important - how we use it and how we protect it. We are embarking on an ambitious transformation programme focused on Data Driven Decisions which means the quality, security and management of our data is a key corporate priority. We are seeking a Data Privacy Manager to lead the way for all things relating to Data Privacy and protection compliance, in accordance with legislation. 

In this pivotal role you will be the subject matter expert in data/information security across the organisation. More than 22,000 customers trust whg to protect their personal information, and you’ll have responsibility for maintaining this trust through effectively managing all Data Privacy policies, procedures and training, ensuring full compliance across our 800 colleagues.  We will also look to you for ideas on continuous improvements and innovative ways to enhance how we use data across our services and how we ensure effective governance, including the development of our new data strategy. 

This is a business critical role, you will report directly to the Corporate Director of Governance, Compliance and Communications and work collaboratively with colleagues across whg.

  • To act as the Data Protection Officer (“DPO”) for whg ensuring compliance with the UK GDPR and DPA and other applicable legislation by ensuring effective systems and controls are in place and that colleagues comply with their legal obligations. 

  • Identification and risk management on all aspects of data protection compliance requirements including future requirements 

  • Management of the Data Governance Officer 

  • Reporting to the Group Executive, Committees and Board. 

We're looking for someone who has: 

  • Relevant professional qualification 

  • Demonstrable recent experience in a similar role, with strong knowledge of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and PECR 

  • Knowledge of ISO27001 

  • Experience in reviewing contracts and Data Processing Agreements 

  • Experience in managing data breaches 

  • Ability to deliver training to different groups 

  • Fully competent in the use of MS Office 

  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills 

  • The ability to work in a team environment and be supportive of others 

  • Good numerical and written skills with excellent attention to detail 

  • A flexible attitude with the ability to shift priorities.
