Job description

We are looking for a permanent Data Protection Specialist to join our awesome Legal Services team.

This prominent role will support the Data Protection Officer to drive privacy initiatives across the organisation to meet our Accountability and Governance requirements under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (UK /EU GDPR); Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA); and Privacy and Electronic Communications (EU Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR).

The Data Protection Specialist will be a point of contact for enquiries from our operational teams and, information security community as well as members of the public. The successful candidate will be involved in in a variety of activities from triaging customer queries, reviewing/refreshing existing policies/processes and resource materials, to leading on discrete assignments such as incident investigations and facilitating the roll out of training and awareness initiatives.

Some of the responsibilities include

  • To provide support to the business with the ongoing review and management of Data Protection records, including the Personal Data Information Asset Register
  • To coordinate and support completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), proactively engaging with operational teams in the identification and mitigation of Data Protection risks
  • To lead the OS process for compiling, assessing and responding to Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other data subject requests
  • Work with the DPO to identify, develop and manage key Data Protection objectives, policies and processes in line with regulatory requirements and developing business strategy
  • Management of the External/Internal facing Data Protection Officer mailbox, triaging emails and forwarding to the relevant business area
  • Advising on PECR, marketing, cookies and other related aspects as and when required
  • Continuous improvement activities such as identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Support the DPO in the reporting of Data Protection compliance metrics offering greater visibility and assurance to senior leadership

What we're looking for

  • Relevant professional qualification/certification in Data Protection and /or a good level of experience and practical application of Data Protection within a digital, data driven organisation
  • Good knowledge of data privacy and PECR/e-privacy regimes, including cookies and latest developments
  • An analytical approach, and the ability to make balanced recommendations based on risk
  • The ability to engage professionally and confidently with teams and stakeholders across the business
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Excel

Desired

  • Experience and / or understanding of FOI/EIR and other information and privacy legislation
  • Experience and / or understanding of Cyber Security and ISO 27001
  • Experience and / or understanding of Records Management and Archives
  • Experience and / or understanding of Information and Privacy legislation within Consumer and Marketing

Location

We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend at least 1 to 2 days a week as a minimum or as required.
