SalaryThe Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is one of Europe’s leading UK Government funded collaborative programmes helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity using expertise, skills and resources from a UK knowledge base. The KTP is being led by Cardiff School of Art and Design and Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy staff from the Sustainable and Resilient Build Environment (SuRBe) research group.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting a collaborative Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) for a fixed term of 36 months between Cynon Taf Community Housing Group (CTCHG) the industry partner and Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK Knowledge Base).
As our KTP Associate, you will:
Work with Canadian experts and suppliers of earth-to thermal exchange systems and CTCHG’s asset housing team to develop the performance specification to enable renewable cooling and heating of the pilot existing dwellings.
Work with the Offsite Manufacturer of Moden Methods of Retrofit (MMR) Systems CTCHG’s asset housing team to develop the MMR performance specification with bio-based and circular materials and systems for the fabric retrofit of the pilot existing dwellings.
Oversee the retrofit implementation of both the MMR systems and the earth-to thermal exchange systems for renewable cooling and heating systems to circa 70 pilot existing dwellings.
Working with the DTZ team, evaluate and develop routes to market for carbon sequestration from food production and the potential for carbon storage from the production of biochar; to include income streams for both.
What we are looking for
Good bachelor’s and master’s degrees in: Architecture, or Architectural Technology, or Architectural Engineering, or Building Engineering, or Building Surveying or other relevant Built Environment or Engineering disciplines.
Good understanding of construction fabric details used in the retrofit of existing housing.
Good understanding of architectural science or building physics particularly in relation to determining the factors which impact upon occupant thermal comfort.
Good understanding of questionnaire design, and analysis and reporting on findings from people surveys.
Good understanding of heating and ventilation systems used in existing or new build housing.
Good understanding of offsite manufactured construction fabric systems for new housing construction or retrofit of existing housing.
Good understanding of the methods to evaluate carbon reduction and thermal comfort from upgrades to building fabric, and heating and ventilation systems in buildings.
Ability to conduct market research, analyse and report on findings and recommendations in written reports and oral presentations.
The ability to conduct participant surveys, analyse and report on qualitative and/or quantitative data, and report on findings and recommendations in written reports and oral presentations.
Ability to analyse quantitative data from building monitoring or modelling such as energy use and associated carbon emissions, thermal comfort and indoor air quality, and report on findings and recommendations in written reports and oral presentations.
