Job Description
You have an opportunity to join our busy Democratic Services Team providing a clerking service to the Council, its Committees and other Council bodies.
You will be required to
- Co-ordinate reports, compile and circulate agendas and other documentation to achieve deadlines determined by Standing Orders;
- Liaise with service areas to ensure there is a clear direction from the decision-making process;
- Take notes at meetings and record decision reached by way of a Note/Minute and where required, produce an action log and monitor progress of outstanding items
- Liaise with Elected Members, Chief Officers and other managers and operational staff, providing procedural advice with regard to the Council’s Standing Orders
EDUCATION
Jobholders must be educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Business Management, Administration, or an acceptable equivalent qualification and/or extensive demonstrable experience to this level in one of the identified disciplines would be an acceptable alternative.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
To be competent in the role the Jobholder must have good interpersonal and organisational skills as well as knowledge of various IT systems and software including Microsoft packages. S/he must also have previous experience of working to strict deadlines, taking minutes of a complex nature and an understanding of experience of local government committee administration work.
A professional knowledge of administration and operational methodology and procedures is also essential.
Desirable
Experience of contributing to transformational change.
An understanding of the principles of integrated services and methodology.

Requirements

Weeks per year: 52
Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £36,311.02 per annum.
Responsibilities
Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a basic/standard/enhanced disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee will be met by you.
