About TUSU

TUSU is a not for profit organisation with an annual budget of around £3 million, dedicated to students at Teesside University. Our mission is to enrich the lives of students at Teesside University, providing a dynamic range of safe, friendly, helpful, and fun services.

We cater to a hyper-diverse mixture of students, including:

  • Many who are slightly older and commute from across the north east.
  • A significant number enrolled in workplace schemes.
  • Numerous international students.

We are proud of our student body's diversity and their record engagement levels, evidenced by the highest turnout in our history in the last elections and a 98% satisfaction rating in the International Student Barometer, placing us in the UK's top 5.

We have played a pivotal role in supporting Teesside University to achieve Gold standard in the Teaching Excellence Framework and win the Social Inclusion University of the Year award.

We are on the cusp of a significant refurbishment of our building to ensure it better meets the needs of students. We will also be collaborating with our university partners to develop a shared student experience strategy.

About the role

With our current CEO retiring after 28 years of remarkable service, we have an exciting opportunity for someone to support our ambitions for the future.

The new Chief Executive will join a loyal and talented team, working alongside a university partner eager to collaborate and enhance student experiences.

Who we are looking for

The key skills we seek include:

  • emotional intelligence
  • a collegiate leadership style
  • experience in partnering with diverse stakeholders
  • a proven track record of leading happy, high-performing teams.

We are proud to be one of the most diverse organisations in the north east, committed to social mobility and empowering people from all walks of life and every area of the globe to gain the benefits of a transformative university experience.

We particularly encourage applications from those traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles.
