Job description

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Safeguarding and Well-being Officer

Maternity fixed term contract

Payscale: SO1 (Actual salary £27,710 - £29,325)

Term time only + 5 additional days

To start: 29 April 2024 or as soon as possible after interviews

Hunslet Moor Primary School is located a short distance from Leeds city centre and draws from a unique and culturally diverse community. Many of our families face multiple barriers which have the potential to adversely impact. Staff at Hunslet Moor are committed to going the ‘extra’ mile in working with our parents, children and numerous agencies/ partnerships in order make a difference to the lives of our children and families.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced safeguarding practitioner ready to take the next step in their career. We are looking to find someone who has a proven track record of working effectively with children and families in challenging circumstances, including families subject to Child Protection or Child in Need plans and inter-agency and partnership workings in order to promote the welfare and protection of vulnerable children and families. Previous experience of working in a School setting or having been a Designated Safeguarding Lead is not essential as we can offer strong induction, support and the development that may be needed in the transition to a primary and/or the step- up to being a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

No day is the same at Hunslet Moor, we are a vibrant fast-pace primary School in which staff with strong inter-personal skills, resilience and adaptability thrive. The post holder will join an established safeguarding and well-being team and in doing so, will add capacity to it. The post holder will need to have a valid driving licence and use of a car for business.

Our safeguarding and well- being team is led by a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mental Health & Wellbeing Officer. The post holder will need work in close partnership with the DSL. We are looking for a capable and pragmatic practitioner who demonstrates a sound understanding of the expectations of a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead as outlined in KCSIE and who would welcome the opportunity to lead as a DSL when the need arises.

We are looking to find someone who can demonstrate high expectations and ambition for the performance of the team, including the desire to make a significant contribution to it and also strengthen the wider practice of staff across School through driving the embedding of all aspects of KCSIE including contributing to developing and implementing strategy to improve the attendance of pupils for whom this is of concern.

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will be expected to supervise the safeguarding work of their colleagues; analyse pupil and data outcomes; and also provide training, support and direction to staff across School. On a daily basis, the post holder will be accountable for the management and administration of CPOMS and this will include the triage all concerns logged on CPOMS; assigning actions and alerting the relevant staff member and following up with staff to ensure these are actioned in a timely and appropriate manner. You will lead and manage key initiatives to secure good outcomes for disadvantaged families.

As a School we are committed to building and maintaining relationships with the families the School serves and so we are looking to find a professional who can demonstrate the approach and aptitude needed to successfully achieve this within the diverse community of the School. Strong inter- agency workings and partnerships is a feature of the team’s work and so we are looking for a post holder who can demonstrate positive impact in this respect.
