Job description

We are an ambitious, discovery-led institution, with a global outlook and a vibrant international community of students and staff, world-renowned for its research. The University of Leicester is one of the top 200 universities in the world and top 25 in the UK according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023. Working hard together, our ambitious staff and students work in cooperation to deliver research, teaching and learning of the highest quality.

As we continue to grow and enhance our facilities, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Deputy Director, Campus Services.

As the Deputy Director, Campus Services, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic development, management, and maintenance of our university's Campus Services. Reporting to the Director of Estates and Campus Services, you will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the efficient and sustainable operation of our estate, contributing to the overall success of the University of Leicester. This will include providing strategic leadership to the University’s commercial revenue generating businesses (including residential, retail, print, conferencing, and events) and provide strategic support and development to facilities services.

You will also take responsibility for professional delivery and development of services relating to commercial and soft facilities services, demonstrating value for money, innovation and effectiveness. You will ensure compliance with all relevant standards and legislation, maintaining high standards of integrity and utilising industry best practice, as well as lead professional support for the development of policies and procedures which deliver and improve the student and staff experience. You will also deputise and represent the Director of Estates and Campus Services where required.

Request

Ideally you will have a substantial level of professional/senior managerial experience with Campus Services, as well as within the Commercial, Security and Facilities Services environment. You will have a record of excellent management of people, resources and change.

Proven track record of generating business across a multisite operation and strong awareness of financial controls is a must.

For further information on the role and its responsibilities, please see the Job Summary Form.

Benefits

Informal queries are welcome and can be made to Tara Tate, [email protected] in the first instance. Interviews for this role will take place on 20th March 2024. Your application should include how you feel you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification, why the appointment is of interest and what you believe you can bring to the role. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 because the appointee will have substantial access to young people and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, an appointment to this post will be subject to checking and appropriate clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful applicant for this post will, therefore, be required to give consent for the University to check with the DBS for the existence and content of any criminal record in the form of a Basic Disclosure. Information received from the DBS and the police will be kept in strict confidence and will be destroyed once the University is satisfied in this regard. The University of Leicester has been changing the world, and changing people’s lives, for 100 years. When you join us, you’ll become part of a community of Citizens of Change, which includes not only our staff and our current students but also thousands of Leicester graduates around the world. As a diverse and forward-thinking employer, we embed the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into everything we do. That includes not just our core missions of teaching and research, but also our support for staff, students and our local community through our values of Inspiring, Impactful and Inclusive. We’re committed to the wellbeing of all our staff and to the sustainability of our environment, on our campus and beyond. We offer a competitive salary package, excellent pension scheme and a generous annual leave allowance, along with opportunities to develop your career in a supportive and collaborative environment.
