Job description

Leadership and Management Responsibilities The Deputy Lead Nurse will be expected to: Understand the Trusts key priorities and those of your Department and how these translate within your area/team. Ensure clarity and effectiveness in developing and designing roles. Ensure management of staff is consistent with Trusts Values in the achievement of equality, equity and optimum performance. Complete annual Appraisals for all staff which reflect these priorities and ensure staff have access to appropriate training and development. Communicate regularly through meetings with teams and individuals and provide opportunity for two-way feedback. Provide expert and appropriate clinical nursing advice on Surgery in Children and Paediatric Critical Care work streams Promote an effective team ethos. Promote equality, diversity and rights, and treat others with dignity and respect ensuring services are developed, managed and delivered to meet the specific needs of those belonging to protected characteristics. Analytical and Judgement responsibilities Responsible for co-ordinating and implementing Research & Development programmes or activity across the region where required To participate and support staff in the development of audits of service deliver and research into new ways of working, benchmarking, and implementation of findings to improve patient care To take an active role in the development of the nursing agenda across the East Midlands region to ensure the continued development of standards for nursing and patient care To support and facilitate the development of nursing research To be pivotal in supporting the reporting of incidents to the Network and sharing learning between and across organisations within the East Midlands Supporting investigations into specific patient issues when appropriate Participate and support in regional clinical peer review processes in order to provide assurance of services Exercise a high level of personal professional autonomy Facilitate a multi-professional seamless approach to the management of children receiving paediatric critical care and/or undergoing Surgery in Children across the East Midlands region As appropriate, contribute to the design and delivery of audits and reviews Co-ordinate the review, development and audit of research-based policies/SOPs within area of responsibility Management Participate in the development of a strategic plan for SIC and PCC nursing services; taking into account resource constraints. Ensure that multi-professional documentation systems, standards and evidence based clinical protocols relevant to SIC and PCC nursing services are delivered and maintained in collaboration with other professional groups. Ensure the latest evidence-based practice is disseminated and being adhered to across the East Midlands region Lead and participate in specific projects that raise the profile of the PCC and SIC nursing services and team members, acting as a resource for nurses working in PCC and SiC across the region Ensure that work streams follow an appropriate change management model in order to ensure effective implementation and adoption of change initiatives across the EM region. Partnership Working Take an active role in developing and maintaining excellent relationships and credibility with stakeholders across the Networks; acting as an honest broker when needed to resolve conflicting views and interests. Foster a culture of collaborative partnership working for the delivery of equitable, high quality patient-centred care. Build links with other appropriate ODNs and networks; taking part in regular forums to discuss common issues and share knowledge and best practice. Be an active member of appropriate committees and working groups, representing the PCC & SiC ODNs at relevant meetings; reporting back to colleagues as appropriate. Patient and Public Involvement Act as a champion for patients and their interests ensuring that patients, their families and carers are actively engaged and their voice is at the heart of the Networks activities. In particular, ensure that any model of care developed by the Network places the patient at its centre. Planning and Organisation Organise meetings with the appropriate representatives/ key stakeholders from the member organisations to develop, deliver and implement the overall programme of work (in the form of identified work streams) Work with the Lead Nurse and Network Leadership team to establish and maintain robust and effective organisational, clinical and information governance structures and performance management arrangements for the network. Identify potential risks, issues and key interdependencies and work with the Lead Nurse and Network Leadership team to ensure strategies are in place to mitigate or manage these. Collaborate with regional providers to implement identified and required policies and propose change improvements to services across the East Midlands region Help to organise and facilitate Network wide meetings and events that bring together providers, commissioners, patients and other stakeholders to agree local priorities and action plans to address local service issues, ensuring clear responsibilities, timelines and deliverables. Establish and maintain highly effective communication routes across the Network Division in line with the needs of the diverse range of stakeholder interests. Ensure alignment of the Networks programme with other strategic initiatives - and with national policy developments and national and international best practice and guidelines. Communication and Working Relationships The post holder will need to be able to interpret and present highly complex, sensitive and sometimes contentious information to large groups of staff across multidisciplinary teams Proactively link with the relevant Lead Commissioners, programme of care leads, clinical networks, academic health science networks and ICS leads where required Foster a culture of collaboration across the relevant services within the East Midlands region Work collaboratively with other paediatric network Lead Nurses to achieve national goals and to share learning between affiliated Networks
