Deputy Leader of English

Pay: Equivalent to Main Scale / UPS+ TLR: 2b

Team Educate are seeking a reliable English Teacher to assist in leading a busy department of teachers in a vibrant secondary school in East Birmingham.

Are you a dedicated English Teacher with a desire to provide high quality learning for secondary school pupils? Do you have experience as Deputy Leader of English, of leading a department to success and are looking to develop your skills in a new challenging role? Are you an established English Teacher who is looking for more responsibility within your department? If so, Team Educate would love to hear from you!

Team Educate are seeking a reliable English Teacher with prior teaching experience in a similar role, to teach and assist in leading a department of successful, passionate, and well-experienced teachers. The role will involve working closely with students and delivering all aspects of the English curriculum to secondary age pupils, including planning, teaching, marking, and monitoring progress.

As Deputy Leader of English, you will work to ensure success across whole cohorts and to maintain and promote teaching standards across the department. As well as a reduced teaching timetable, you will regularly take part in meetings with the Department Leader, contribute to departmental and school evaluations, as well as assist in the creation of Department Improvement Plans. You will already be an excellent practitioner with strong knowledge of assessment and data analysis, planning, subject knowledge and behaviour, looking to use your expertise to support other teachers in their role. There will be an opportunity to lead a key aspect of English or to focus on key year groups.

Deputy Leader of English responsibilities:

  • Take the lead in delivering an excellent programme of teaching to students in Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Assist in producing high-quality learning materials to ensure consistency across the department.
  • Contribute to Department Improvement Plans and Departmental Evaluation Reports.
  • Regularly review data to inform action plans with a view for pupil progress and targeting specific groups.
  • Promote excellent teaching standards through own practice and in supporting other teachers.

The successful Deputy Leader of English will require:

  • A proven track record of success in teaching English.
  • An enthusiastic attitude with excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for motivating students and a record of implementing strategies to improve outcomes.
  • A desire to set high expectations, embrace new challenges and work to support and guide members of your team.
  • A reflective mindset and the ability to create action plans from reviewing data.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain a full-time, permanent role with a school at an exciting time in its development. We’d love to hear from you if you feel you have the experience required and are ready to embrace an exciting new opportunity in leading a thriving department.
