Job overview
In conjunction with the Medical Education Manager (MEM) the Deputy Medical Education Manager (dMEM) is responsible for providing senior management support for the provision of Medical Education services across the Trust including the planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching activities and training programmes for junior doctors and medical students.
Main duties of the job
Support the MEM and senior clinicians (DME, DdME, CT), to develop and implement the Medical Education Strategy.
The postholder will provide support to senior clinicians in Medical Education to develop, manage, and deliver a range of high-quality and cost-effective Medical Educational services within the Trust to meet the educational needs for postgraduate doctors in training and expected standards in education for undergraduate medical students as set out by NHS England (NHSE), General Medical Council (GMC) and associated medical school.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Support the MEM and senior clinicians to ensure robust governance is in place for effective monitoring and evaluation of education standards and service improvement that includes feedback from students and trainees to develop existing and new services.
Support the MEM to analyse and evaluate activity and performance in order to continually improve the quality of Medical Education and ensure it meets the requirements of the education contract and regulatory bodies.
Develop and implement appropriate operational procedures for the effective delivery of Medical Education services.
Responsible for investigating and responding to incidents raised and implementing appropriate escalation, mitigation and learning in conjunction with the MEM.
Work with the MEM and senior clinicians to review survey results and placement feedback and devise appropriate action plans in response.

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an NHS or educational background
  • Experience of working with a wide range of staff groups to plan and deliver a broad programme of services
  • Evidence of contribution to quality improvement initiatives and/or managing change

Qualifications

  • Relevant / specialist degree level qualification or equivalent experience which would have been achieved in a healthcare and/or education environment
