Job description
Join our team as a Site Operative! We are looking for an independent worker to join us across our 4 sites, covering 15 square miles. As a Site Operative, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, primarily as Fuels Operative but also including delivering post, cleaning, and maintaining vehicles. You will also assist with loading and unloading deliveries and labouring, so there will be times when you will work outdoors.
Additionally, you will receive training on delivering and dispensing various fuel types. A full UK manual driving license is required as you will be required to drive around the 4 sites. You will also assist with audits of equipment, ensuring it is PAT tested and remains safe to use.

MOD Bicester is a rural site with limited public transport, but you will be using our white fleet vehicles to transport necessary items and equipment around the 4 sites. You will be expected On-site full time.
What you’ll be doing
- Logistics Operatives carry out activity and operations relating to the safe receipt, storage, maintenance, and issue of materiel across the Defence estate.
- All activity will be carried out in accordance with local and central health and safety policies including adhering to Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Statutory Regulations.
- Working conditions include aspects such as working outside in inclement weather and in environments requiring special precautions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
- Handle all materials in a safe and efficient manner to comply with SSOW including authorised and quality procedures, risk assessments, manual handling & Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and ensure any record keeping is maintained to a high standard and in a timely manner.
- Monitor the environment and maintain a high standard of security, cleanliness and housekeeping within the facilities to prevent theft, accidents or damage to materiel or persons.
- Ensuring compliance with current Storage and Handling Equipment Procedures (SHEPs) where appropriate
- The role will be required to adopt a multi-skilled approach in supporting wider depot operations and activities in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures.
- Drive and/or operate vehicles or mechanical handling equipment in line with relevant health and safety rules including use and care of equipment.
- Load and/or unload any materiel in a safe and timely way in accordance with extant operating procedures.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Basic computer skills.
- Full UK Manual Driving Licence
- Knowledge of basic Health and Safety Policies.
- Experience of working in a support team or varied working environment.
- Mandatory and role specific training to be conducted as appropriate.
