Design Intern

Location: Bournemouth /Hybrid

Internship date: 1st July to 23rd August 2024

Salary: £11.50 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking an intern to join our multi-disciplinary Design Team on an 8-week summer internship programme from 1st July to 23rd August 2024.

McCarthy Stone’s internship programme will provide you with an excellent experience where you will gain industry and field-related skills, and experience, while earning a competitive salary. Taking part in our programme will boost your CV and will ensure you have a deep understanding of our business, the industry that we operate in and an insight into our customers.

Working with Cross functional teams to advance and improve our designs for older persons housing. Dependant on the candidate’s expertise, specialism, and interests this can be related to:

  • Creating aspirational designs for the fastest growing sector in the industry
  • Modernising the way we build - Modular and alternative forms of construction
  • Creating cutting edge Interior Design
  • Innovative Designs with ‘hidden’ care built in – with a focus on Dementia
  • Developing and improving Accessibility ad adaptability standards
  • Research opportunities

Alongside your role, you will be part of a cohort of interns which will instantly enable you to start building your internal network at McCarthy Stone. There will also be a series of Learning & Development opportunities to get involved in throughout your journey with us including insight and skills sessions and lunch and learns on key business topics.

This internship is based in our Bournemouth head office. It is a hybrid role with a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. In certain circumstances we would consider candidates who live further afield with a smaller requirement to work from Bournemouth.

About You

Education and Qualifications

  • Under Graduate or Post graduate level.
  • Studying towards a degree or equivalent in a design related field – Architecture or Interiors on target for at least a 2:1 or equivalent.
  • An interest in residential design and ideally Older persons housing design
  • Able and happy to work independently and set themselves realistic but challenging targets.

  • Interested in a career within residential design
  • Organised and works well to deadlines.
  • Able to multitask and prioritise.
  • Communicates clearly, both written and verbally.
  • Shows a good level of attention to detail.
  • Works well within a team, but equally on their own.
  • Good at building working relationships
  • Has a flexible, positive and can-do attitude
  • Computer literate and has experience in design software.
