Design Manager - District Heating

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading turnkey engineering contractor, designing, installing, operating and maintaining environmentally friendly energy generating systems and networks, such as District Heating networks & energy centre. They are seeking to recruit a Design Manager to join their team based from their offices in Blackburn, Lancashire.

The Design Manager role comes with a competitive salary of up to �80,000 to �100,000 DOE, plus 33 days holiday + Bank Holiday’s and flexible working.

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Design Manager will be responsible for:

* Managing the mechanical design team responsible for working on energy solution projects such as District Heating networks, CHP & energy centres.
* Leading the delivery of design packages on all projects, on time and within budget, using commercial, contractual & technical expertise.
* Providing technical guidance relating to CDM regulations & supporting the preparation of HAZOP studies.
* Ensuring the design process is complaint with the QHSE management systems, along with all other required regulations & legislation.
* Representing the company & building strong relationships with clients to understand their requirements & update them throughout the process on project progress.
* Supporting the continuous improvement of the design department such as for design documentation & in-house systems.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

* Proven experience in a Design Manager or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer level role with technical knowledge covering District Heating, CHP, energy centre, HVAC systems, building services etc.
* Ideally a degree level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design.
* Professional Membership or ideally Chartered Status

Personal skills
The Design Manager role would suit someone who:

* Possesses proven experience at management level with the ability to coach, mentor, motivate & manage a mechanical design team.
* Has the ability to build & maintaining relationships both internally & externally with clients & other stakeholders.
* Has extensive experience in mechanical design for construction projects with technical knowledge covering District Heating, CHP, energy centre, HVAC systems, building services etc.
* Ability to communicate key & complex information borg verbally & in writing.
