Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced K9 Training Instructor to join our team. As a Training Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs to both dogs and non senior employees, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles. This is a full-time position.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with and training patrol and Detection dogs, to include explosive (EDD) and Narcotic (NDD) Detection dogs.

The role will require the training of K9s in patrol and detection roles as well as handlers when required on the delivery of trained K9s to our clients.

The senior instructor will be responsible for training and overseeing standards of non-senior trainers. FTK9 do not deploy handlers and teams and focus only on supplying dogs to a high standard, whilst handler training is required for client deliveries, and courses delivery to civilians, the senior instructor will primarily oversee the standard of training being delivered to each dog as part of our quality assurance process, this is a core value and must be up kept at all times.

The role will include international duties of both delivering training to external handlers and clients as well as K9 handovers, the applicant must be able to travel overseas and hold an in date passport, being confident in classroom and lecture settings.

Duties:
- Develop training materials, including presentations, manuals, and online resources
- Deliver engaging and interactive training sessions to non senior trainers and handlers/dog teams where applicable

- Assess and recruit suitable K9s

- Train detection, patrol or dual purpose K9s

- To liaise professionally with our clients ensuring their requirements and standards are met at all times

- Strict record keeping and overseeing of relevant policies

- Keep abreast of current legislation appertaining to the carriage, keeping and use of substances used in dog training.

- Be responsible for the care of substances in his/her charge whilst training, and maintain the necessary registers of such substances.

- Carry out full requirements of a GP instructor.

- To oversee standards and compliance in house
- Assess training needs of K9s and create customized training plans
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accurate and relevant content
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvement
- Maintain training records and documentation

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A nationally recognised Search Dog Instructor course certificate and experience in the training and deployment of specialist search dogs
  • A flexible approach, and be prepared to work long and unsociable hours if required including oversees for delivery of training and courses.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and make positive contributions to activities within a team environment.
  • An enquiring mind and a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to work to a high professional standard with little or no immediate supervision.
  • The ability to operate computer based systems and/or the willingness to undertake training to become proficient in systems.
  • To have respect for race and diversity by having an awareness of equality and diversity issues in the working environment
  • Hold a clean full UK driving license
  • An in date passport
  • A nationally recognised General Purpose or Explosive Search Dog Certificate, Instructor course Certificate and Ideally a drug search Certificate.
