Job description

Detective Constable Accelerated Entry Scheme (DC-AES)

Location: London

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

Starting salary: £29,751 per annum + location dependent regional allowances. For Inner London this is £7,224. For other top tier locations, this is £3000.

We’re excited to be working with the British Transport Police to recruit for Detective Constables to partake in the Accelerated Entry Scheme in London.

About the Role

Policing with the British Transport Police gives you opportunities like no other.

The British Transport Police is introducing a Detective Constable (DC) Accelerated Entry Scheme (AES) which will be open to both external and internal candidates.

This scheme aims to recruit motivated people wishing to become detectives from a wide range of backgrounds and communities, placing emphasis on transferable skills from previous jobs, specialist knowledge and life experience.

The DC AES will support recruits to reach the status of detective. Who, in turn, will bring with them their own valuable skillsets to enhance BTP as a force.

Training and Support

Successful candidates can expect to be fully supported by the best crime training the force has to offer. Delivered over a full 12-month period, it will provide the solid foundation a trainee detective needs to enter the exciting world of criminal investigation.

The DC AES has been created with support and quality assurance in mind. Recruits will first, and foremost, be trained to be police officers. This involves completing basic training in uniform alongside divisional recruit colleagues and receiving first class police training from experienced uniform instructors.

Diverging after basic training from the traditional probationer constable route way, to undertake bespoke investigation training is the first step to becoming a qualified detective. You will then be provided the skillset to enter the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as a trainee Detective constable after just 42 weeks of training. During each stage of training DC AES recruits will have access to the AES lead for coaching and mentoring, who will offer support and guidance as they progress through each stage.

About the British Transport Police
