Job description
Cardiff University’s Development and Alumni Relations team are recruiting for a permanent, full-time Development Officer (Leadership Giving) to join their Fundraising Team. We are an ambitious and innovative university with a bold and strategic vision, located in a beautiful and thriving capital city. As a registered charity, philanthropic donations play an important role in funding research to address global problems and allow the most talented students to thrive, regardless of their financial situation. In recent years, the Development and Alumni Relations team (DEVAR) has succeeded in growing philanthropic income from under £2 million to over £7 million annually. We're looking for a person to join the Fundraising Team at an important moment, as we build upon this exciting step-change in Cardiff’s charitable capacity. Working as part of an experienced Fundraising Team, the post holder will raise philanthropic funds for medical research (projects include cancer research, neuroscience and mental health research and systems immunity) and scholarships and bursaries. This role will have a specific focus on securing philanthropic, leadership level gifts between £1,000-£25,000. This will involve asking for donations largely from alumni via bespoke and personalised means and regular travel across the UK (mainly London) is expected. The successful candidate will have experience working in an external-facing and result-driven environment. They will be able to evidence their ability to establish and develop quality relationships with alumni, donors and colleagues and possess strong communication and negotiation skills. The Development and Alumni Relations Team has a blended approach to working. We currently work on campus on Wednesdays and remotely (from home) for the rest of the week, unless there is a business need to be on campus. The option to work on campus full time is available if staff members choose to do this. For an informal conversation prior to applying for this role, please email Genna Vizard, Development Manager (Leadership Giving), at VizardG2@cardiff.ac.uk. This is a full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended position. Salary: £32,332 - £34,980 per annum (Grade 5), appointments will usually be at the bottom of the Grade. Important note: It is the University’s policy to use the person specification as a key tool for short-listing. Candidates should evidence that they meet ALL of the essential criteria as well as, where relevant, the desirable. As part of the application process you will be asked to provide this evidence via a supporting statement. Please ensure that the evidence you are providing corresponds with the numbered criteria outlined above. Your application will be considered based on the information you provide under each element. Interviews: 21 February 2024. Closing date: 14 February 2024 Please be aware that Cardiff University reserves the right to close this vacancy early should sufficient applications be received. Cardiff University is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity and to creating an inclusive working environment. We believe this can be achieved through attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse range of staff from many different backgrounds who have the ambition to create a University which seeks to fulfil our social, cultural and economic obligation to Cardiff, Wales, and the world. In supporting our employees to achieve a balance between their work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
