- To perform complex radiographic procedures to a high quality standard, contributing to the delivery of an effective and responsive radiology service *To be responsible for ensuring that important and often life threatening information seen on the images is communicated to the referring team / reporting radiologist or senior radiographer for immediate action *To act as a Practitioner and operator under IR(ME)R 2000 for Digital Radiography examinations -- primary responsibility to optimise the practical aspects of the exposure for which they are responsible *Ensure radiation doses are as low as reasonably practicable to patients, staff and visitors, balancing clinical necessity with the dangers of exposing them to ionising radiation KEY RESULT AREAS Main tasks / overview of responsibilities *Take ownership of the quality assurance of own work and prioritise own workload when required *Utilise a wide range of radiographic techniques to a high-quality standard and have the ability to modify these techniques when appropriate, taking into account the patient's condition *Ensure ongoing competency when working independently in theatres and undertaking mobile radiography, identify any shortfalls to a senior member of staff *Use equipment safely and appropriately, and report any malfunctions to the appropriate senior staff *Ensure the care and comfort of patients in the department at all times *Maintain a safe and tidy working environment and high standards of equipment cleanliness *To deal effectively and responsibly for the safe disposal of, blood, bodily fluids and sharps *Observe and maintain the highest possible working standards, observing departmental procedures and protocols *Deal initially with patient concerns and complaints and escalate the issues to a more senior radiographer when appropriate *Extend and maintain good working relationships with departmental colleagues and other staff within the hospital *Work as a multi-disciplinary team member to ensure efficient and effective patient management. Prioritise own workload to efficiently manage service provision *Develop of own skills and knowledge and contribution towards the development of others *Personally aspire to maintain high ethical and professional standards in attitude at work. This will include punctuality and appearance *Communicate regularly through meetings with teams and individuals *Undertake all mandatory training and regular updates as specified by the Trust, and any other appropriate training to comply with future legislation and development of future Trust policies. Attend relevant in-house educational and audit sessions *Ensure and maintain working knowledge when using departmental computer information systems
