Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, digitally minded, Clinical Leader to play a key role in the implementation, optimisation and adoption of our new Electronic Patient Record and Microsoft 365. As a Digital Clinician you will work as part of a team to deliver effective digital transformation across Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust.
You will have a strong interest in how digital solutions can help provide high quality, safe and efficient patient care and will be pivotal in engaging with clinical teams to optimise their use of technology to improve service delivery.

The post holder will report to the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) and work closely with clinical, technical and operational colleagues within our divisional structure and digital directorate.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for exceptional individuals who have experience in digital transformation and innovation.
Key aspects of the role will be to:
  • To operate as a Clinical Leader leading the design of digital services and capabilities in a division or specialty (e.g. inpatient services, community services etc.).
  • Hold expertise on Digital Clinical safety and user led design, leading relevant working groups/projects, services, and initiatives to provide digital transformation, information and analytical advice and expertise.
  • Ensure Clinical Safety is considered throughout the lifetime of projects and initiatives, identifying and mitigating associated clinical risks

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Trust's Digital Strategy describes the use digital technology to innovate, enhance and automate services that improve the experience of our staff, partners, and the communities we serve. A digital transformation programme has been established to deliver a step change across our core information systems, technology architecture, data and information.
The Digital Clinical Lead is a digital leader responsible and accountable for advancing clinical quality and safety through the optimal use of digitally enabled clinical initiatives that effect or involve clinical practice. The role will focus on optimisation and innovation via Microsoft 365 and the electronic patient record.
This post is part of a team of clinical, technical, and operational leadership roles within the digital directorate that will ensure the digital agenda is strategically aligned with future models of care and workforce strategies and addresses the day-to-day operational challenges facing our clinical teams.
This role also supports the Trust's Transformation Programme providing Clinical Leadership and linking digital and operational transformation via our divisional structure.
A key aspect of this role will be to encourage and support clinical colleagues to embrace transformational change associated with the digital agenda and to act as a liaison between the Trust's clinical collective and the EPR and M365 programmes.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Qualification or equivalent experience in Project Management methodology such as Agile Project Management (Practitioner level) and/or User Led Design or transformation methodologies

Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate degree, MSc or PhD from NHS Digital Academy or similar leadership programme or evidence of leadership development

Kowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Demonstrated experience of leading organisation-wide change programmes and projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Experience of leading clinical/digital or operational teams within the NHS
  • Experience of working with senior stakeholders, managing their expectations and reporting progress on Programme progress
  • Experience of user led design and applying quality improvement methodologies
  • Experience of writing and presenting Business Cases and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Professional Registration as a Clinician or Digital Profession
  • Demonstrated experience in a Health or social care environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project principles, techniques and tools, such as Agile, PRINCE2 and Microsoft Project
  • Experience of creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of managing stakeholder relationships
  • Experience of managing supplier relationships
  • Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures
  • Experience of managing a team without direct line management
  • Experience of leading a team of professionals, preferably a team of Project Managers or clinicians

  • Ability to prepare, produce and present concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to understand the impact of the projects/ programme in the post holders remit on Trust operations and to sensitively discuss this impact with clinicians and other stakeholders.

Analytical & Judgement skills
Essential criteria
  • Ability to analyse very complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources
  • Capability to act upon incomplete information, using experience to make inferences and decision making
  • Numerate and able to understand complex financial issues combined with deep analytical skills
  • Ability to analyse and judge the impact of projects on the organisations processes and ensure that any process changes are managed across the Trust.

Planning & Organisational skills/ People Management/Leadership/Resources
Essential criteria
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly
  • Participation in regular programme and project review meetings and delivering concise updates identifying key risks and issues with proposed solutions.
  • Production and maintenance of accurate Programme documentation, including plans, risks, issues, highlight reports, exception reports, etc.
  • Long-term planning of Digital Portfolio to meet the organisation's strategic goals and business strategy
  • Leading and developing teams of professionals, including Project Managers, a Digital Transformation Manager and clinicians.
  • Ability to secure resources projects, negotiating with colleagues across the Trust for the release of resources - some part-time - to support the work programme.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales
