About the team?
This role is an important part of the Retail team, who manage and deliver GWR's digital channels.
We maintain and develop GWR's online presence. This includes promoting products and services, keeping customers informed, and increasing brand awareness.
It's an exciting time to join our team, as we develop our Digital Content strategy. You'll play an important part in this, helping us make better, data-driven decisions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a large website used by millions of people. You'll play a critical role in creating engaging, accessible, and user-driven content.
A key part of your day-to-day role will be managing website content. There will be plenty of opportunity to shape how we work, as we review and develop our content processes.
Another part of your role will be to dig into digital analytics to help us develop the website. You'll identify new opportunities and improvements, representing our users and their needs.
By working with stakeholders across GWR, you'll get a strong insight into our business. You'll promote digital best practices to colleagues, delivering content that meets business objectives.
Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinate the design of website content, working with digital managers and internal stakeholders
  • Timely moderation and publication of site content through our content management system
  • Prioritise website content requests against digital, retail and business objectives
  • Ensure editorial quality standards, appropriate tone of voice and consistency on the website
  • Provide day-to-day advice to colleagues, ensuring website content is iteratively improved
  • Work with the Digital Marketing and Content Manager to improve content processes and governance
  • Stay up to date with best practices in web accessibility, usability and writing for the web
  • Use customer insight tools to track performance of customer journeys and experience
  • Use customer data to help answer business questions and improve digital services
  • Work with digital managers to deliver user testing and improvements
  • Monitor trends in the travel industry, our competitors and digital innovation

You'll need to be:
  • passionate about Digital Content
  • a strong copyeditor and proofreader, with keen attention to detail
  • a confident copywriter, who can take complex information and make it clear and engaging
  • aware of search engine optimisation (SEO) principles and practices
  • familiar with digital analytic tools, including Google Analytics and Google Search Console
  • an effective communicator who can build relationships with stakeholders and explain technical issues concisely
  • happy to get stuck in and support others in a small and close team
  • organised and resilient, and can manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
  • dedicated and enthusiastic to learn new skills.

As a minimum, you will need to have:
  • experience in a digital editorial role
  • experience managing or supporting Digital Content production
  • experience using content management systems to update content on public-facing websites
  • (preferable) experience in a digital team or agile product development environment
  • (preferable) experience working with an e-commerce website.

About the location?
The Retail team work in office locations in Exeter, Plymouth and London, with stakeholders based in Swindon. This role can be based at any of these locations, dependent on your home location.
To ensure collaboration and support for our stakeholders, there is a requirement for regular work on-site in an office location, in addition to fortnightly travel to our London office. Free rail travel across the GWR network is provided for GWR employees.
Working pattern?
This is a Monday to Friday, Office hours role, working 37 hours per week, although some flexibility is required to handle emerging business needs, including travel to other GWR locations.
