The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Role
We are looking for experienced Digital Forensic Analysts that are interested in applying their skills in a unique and demanding environment.
Are you capable of combining technical ability with an investigative and analytical mindset? Do you want to be an integral member of a specialist unit that supports criminal investigations?
The Surrey Digital Forensic Team is responsible for the forensic recovery and analysis of data from electronic devices seized during investigations. Successful candidates could join either our Computer or Mobile Device Team, depending on their prior experience.
Your primary role will be the analysis of data extracted from computers or mobile devices, as well as providing advice, support and assistance to others.
The role is office based and the Digital Forensics Team is located at the Surrey Police HQ in Guildford. You will be required to work a fixed shift pattern which includes day (08:00 - 16:00) and late shifts (10:00 - 18:00) as well as some weekend working (08:00 - 16:00)
Key Responsibilities
As a Digital Forensic Analyst you will be responsible for
  • Analysing, interpreting and validating data extracted from computers and similar devices.
  • Reviewing media and grading illegal content.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in the field of Digital Forensics and be a subject matter expert on key aspects of this field of work.
  • Providing advice and guidance to others, based on your knowledge as a subject matter expert.
  • Members of our mobile team will be required to carry out advanced repair and extraction methods
You will need to be familiar with legislation relevant to our area of business, which includes, but is not limited to, PACE, RIPA and the CPIA. You will need to be capable of being compliant with ISO 17025. Where necessary, you will be required to take the lead in certain areas of business, commensurate with your grade. e.g. you might be required to make decisions in lieu of a Team Leader.
Due to the strong probability of viewing a broad range of disturbing material you will be expected to be psychologically screened and interviewed prior to, and whilst in, post.
Skills & Experience
You will need to be/have
  • Significant experience in a Digital Forensics environment.
  • Experienced in the use of forensic tools for computer analysis.
  • Experienced in the use of a case management system.
  • A high degree of interpersonal and oral skills along with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels especially when giving evidence at court.
  • A flexible approach and awareness of operational security.
Knowledge of, or experience with, ISO 17025 would be a distinct advantage.
