About the role:

We are looking for a Digital Network & Security Technician to join our IT Department. As a technician within the Network & Security team, the main purpose of the role is to support delivery of stable, reliable and secure network services across the Bedford College Group, as well as supporting the wider IT team by resolving IT issues and supporting the administrative and communications activities of the service. You will play a pivotal role in the success of the College through:

  • Contributing to the delivery of an efficient and effective IT services by configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting IT Network equipment and services at all college group sites.
  • Monitoring and administering IT in all locations supported by Bedford College Group IT Services and ensure that systems and resources are maintained in a good state of repair and records for these resources are accurate.
  • Contributing to the implementation of current network development projects.
  • Contributing to securing the network against cybersecurity threats following industry best practices

About you:

  • Level 2 qualification in computing or equivalent work experience.
  • Willingness to achieve Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Switch OS (e.g Cisco, Aruba or Extreme)
  • Understanding of network principles e.g. routing, switching, VLANs
  • Understanding of up-to-date network security best practices
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems
  • Ability to communicate with and support the IT needs of non-IT specialist clients and customers
  • Ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision and on own initiative
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends as required
