Job Summary We are seeking a Digital Pathology Technician to support the expansion of the Digital Pathology at our Safety Assessment site located in Tranent, Edinburgh, UK. The microscopic evaluation of tissue specimens for the presence of pathologic changes is a key part of the safety screening of new pharmaceuticals and this has traditionally been performed by pathologists on glass microscope slides. With the advent of new technologies, Charles River Laboratories is transitioning to the use of digitised images for pathology evaluation in order to eliminate need for pathologists to travel, reduce shipping of slides, leverage the use of artificial intelligence tools and speed up the pathology workflow. The successful candidate will join the speciality pathology team and contribute to this exciting new initiative by undertaking tasks required for the day to day running of the Digital Pathology service. The following are responsibilities associated with the Digital Pathology Technician position: Review protocols to identify studies requiring Digital Pathology Digitise glass slides using whole slide scanners Keep pathologists informed of the progress of slide scanning requests Upload slide images and associated metadata to Digital Pathology viewing platforms Perform deletions of scanned images as required Perform monthly calibration of slide scanners Supervise vendor visits to service scanners Participate in global Digital Pathology Research and Development projects The following are minimum qualifications related to the Digital Pathology Technician position: Good organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines Effective written and verbal communication skills Good general understanding of computer systems and data transfer. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Experience in GLP processes is preferred but not required. Although Digital Pathology is the primary focus of this role, should the business needs exist, the candidate may be cross trained in other areas of speciality pathology. The salary for this position is £23,804.89 per annum. The closing date is 23 February 2024.
