Job Title: DSP Engineer


Job Location: UK- Tewkesbury or Fleet

L3Harris in Tewkesbury and Fleet are part of our ICI division, we work closely with UK Government and Security Agencies primarily in the areas of crypto/cyber security, electronic warfare, counter drone capabilities and situation awareness projects.


As DSP engineer, you will have good knowledge of DSP and applied mathematics, be dedicated to developing algorithms for Signal Processing, with experience in modern wireless telecommunications to work on projects in the fields of telecommunications and imaging for military end application. As a DSP algorithm developer, you will have simulation and modelling experience using MATLAB to develop DSP components and algorithms. To complement your theoretical knowledge, you will have experience of DSP algorithm implementation using Digital Signal Processors or FPGAs using, C/C++, Python for software, or Open CPI, VHDL for FPGAs.

Essential Requirements for the Role:

  • A degree in Digital Signal Processing, Communications Engineering or Mathematics
  • Knowledgeable in DSP theory with experience of algorithm development in some of the following areas:
    • Filtering
    • FFTs
    • Correlation
    • Multi-rate systems up/down sampling, up/down conversion
    • Signal detection
    • Adaptive systems
    • Beam forming, MIMO
  • Knowledgeable in Communications theory with experience of developing digital communications systems or sub-systems, working in the following areas:
    • Modulation and demodulation including PSK, FSK, OFDM, CDMA.
    • Detection, Synchronisation
    • Error correction coding


Additional Skills and Experience (desirable):

  • Knowledge of cellular and other communications protocols, eg 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, LoRa and GPS would be useful.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Warfare algorithms (ESM/ECM) and techniques would be useful.
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital and RF hardware, its limitations and the effects on system performance.
  • Experience of, and ability to work with, real hardware such as:
    • Software defined radios
    • Test equipment including, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, vector signal analysers and vector signal generators, and understand the results/outputs generated.
    • Practical RF antenna knowledge and RF trials experience
    • Ability to work from fundamental principles to develop solutions for new and/or ill-defined problems.
    • Analytical abilities, perseverance, patience, highly flexible and a naturally inquisitive/creative are good attributes to be successful in this role
