Digital Technology Solutions Degree ApprenticeshipWithin Research & Development

Apprenticeship Programme

You will be working towards a level 6 Digital Technology Solutions Degree qualification, whilst developing your skills and knowledge with on-the-job training and experiences. You will have the opportunity to spend 20% of your week learning with an external training provider working towards an externally recognised qualification. The following 80% of your time will be based at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, you’ll work alongside industry-leading experts gaining practical knowledge of what you are studying, take part in corporate social responsibility initiatives and grow your networks, equipping you with personal and professional training and development to accelerate your career.

About Research & Development 

The R&D department are responsible for the entire design and development process of all Bentley products, from idea creation all the way through to engineering sign off. Our mission is to inspire our customers by creating extraordinary products through passion, collaboration and sustainable innovation. Our R&D team consists of six departments: Products & Concepts, Body & Trim, Electrical & Electronics, Vehicle Motion, Whole Vehicle Engineering and Technical Conformity. As an Apprentice at Bentley you will be working alongside and mentored by R&D industry technical experts, giving you real-life tangible experience to elevate your career journey in R&D.

There are two departmental areas available within R&D:

Product Cyber Security Team

The Product Security Team follows a secure development lifecycle aligned to a well-defined Automotive Security Management System. This provides the process assets for developing electrical architecture, whilst engraving a risk-based approach towards secure product development, Industrialisation and post production monitoring. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •  Help identify threats and evaluate the cyber security risks based on organisational guidelines
  • Collaborate with product security team, cross functional teams to gain practical experience on the automotive networks, interfaces, functions and apply security technology to protect the risks arising from the identified threats
  • Support investigation and analysis of reported cyber security vulnerability during product development to help decide for the risk treatment

Connected Car Team

The vision of the Connected Car Team is to provide our customers with a range of features an services that make their Bentley relationship the most rewarding, convenient and magical connected experience by integrating the vehicle into their personal ecosystem and meeting the Beyond100 strategy. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to technical documentation, process mapping and continuous improvement of the agile development life cycle
  • Assist Connected Car Feature owners to deliver Connected Services. This includes technical management, issue management, liaising with partners and assisting identifying trends
  • Test Connected Car Services against test cases with test vehicles and test rigs

About you

It would be advantageous to have demonstrable experience of working in a team through extracurricular activities or part time work. In addition to an interest in learning more about the Automotive Industry and Sustainability topics. The successful candidate will:
