The Navy business is organisationally part of Business Unit Propulsion in Marine, but it serves the world’s navies (excl. the US Navy) with all Wärtsilä product portfolios. The majority of the team is located in Nantes, France.

 

The Navy business is a long-term commitment, requiring a long-term focus where relationships are built over many years.

 

We are now looking for an inspiring and engaging 

 

Director Navy

 

to take full P&L responsibility of the Navy business. The position holder ensures long term competitiveness, growth and profitability by e.g. proactive and collaborative sales and sales support as well as introducing new offerings and new revised earnings models for the Navy customers.

 

This position is preferably located in Nantes or with a commitment to be present in Nantes frequently, and reports to the Vice President, Business Unit Propulsion.

 

As Director Navy your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead, manage and develop the Navy business globally (excl. USA) 
  • Define and execute the strategic / tactical objectives for Navy
  • Profit and loss accountability, plan and execute business and financial performance according to long range plan and rolling forecast targets, as part of overall Marine targets
  • Contribute to the development and success of the Propulsion Business Unit as a member of its Management Team
  • Create clarity on direction and inspire people to take action towards future goals
  • Develop an organization with high passion and drive – while making sure that it is fun doing business
  • Define clear interfaces across the organization to maintain, develop and improve collaboration both with BUs owning product portfolios and with other internal/external stakeholders
  • Securing full business compliance to maintain the license to operate, while adapting the compliance structures to future demands of regulators and customers
  • Lead continuous improvement flow activities
  • Live the Wartsila Leadership Model and reinforce the strong team spirit
  • Active participation in IMarEST and RINA as a market influencer

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
 

  • Excellent overall knowledge of the marine market and business environment
  • In-depth understanding of Navy business and how Wärtsilä can provide value to these customers
  • Excellence in building and maintaining relationships, both internal and external
  • Ability to internally collaborate strongly with product owners, supply management and finance 
  • High level of business acumen and sound understanding of core financial concepts for example related to P&L
  • Relevant education coupled with a strong track record of leadership in a global environment
  • Good level of technical and contractual understanding in order to be able to facilitate customer discussions and decision making around offering and technical solutions
  • Strong drive for performance with an empowering and inspiring attitude
  • Customer-centric approach and experience from demanding roles in customer interface  
  • Commitment to global overseas travel even at short notice
  • Change leadership experience and ability to lead through a strong team approach
  • Communication, cooperation, influencing and coaching skills; being able to guide the own team on how to work in a complex environment and with the Wärtsilä Way in mind, understanding the value of collaboration
  • Fluent written and spoken English, French language skills is a benefit
  • The position holder must be able to obtain the required security clearances throughout the period of holding this position
