The Service Director will have a corporate role as a member of the Trust’s Executive Team that will include helping to shape the Trust’s overall objectives and will share corporate responsibility for the governance of the Trust and compliance with legal requirements.
The Service Director will be required to provide clear leadership and oversight of a number of Service Divisions ensuring the quality and safety of services to patients and service users through effective multidisciplinary working.
The Service Director is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of services under the six key elements of Safety, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Equity, Timeliness and Experience in line with the Trust’s Quality Management System and will be expected to demonstrate good management in all of the above quality metrics.
Division of Child Health & NISTAR
The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC) provides secondary care paediatric services for its local population, including the only stand-alone Paediatric Emergency Department for the Greater Belfast Area, as well as a range of specialist tertiary services for the whole of Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Specialist Transport and Retrieval Service (NISTAR) is a regional service responsible for the road transfer of babies, children and adults who require an acute transfer between hospitals as part of their medical care. The service is hosted by Belfast Trust who are responsible for the operational and governance arrangements for the service.
Division of Maternity, Dental and Sexual Health
The Royal Maternity Jubilee Hospital (RJMH) is located on the Royal Hospital site and delivers around 4800 babies per year. The New Maternity Hospital is nearing completion with plans to open in 2024.
The Regional Fertility Service also operates out of the RJMH site. The service also operates the Rose Clinic out of College Street for advice in relation Sexual Health. The Gynae in-patient service is based on the Belfast City Hospital site with complex elective surgery being undertaken there. Day case and overnight gynae surgery is undertaken on the Mater Hospital overnight elective care centre and emergency gynae service is located on the Royal Hospitals site.
The Dental service is based on Royal Hospitals site with a community outreach at Carlisle Circus. It covers both Oral surgery, special care and reconstruction services.
The regional Genito-Urinary Medicine service is located on the Royal Hospitals site and provides a wide range of Sexual Health and HIV Services.
Essential Criteria
- A professional qualification or a University degree and worked for at least 3 years in a senior management role in a major complex organisation
OR
Worked for at least 5 years in a senior management role in a major complex organisation
AND delivered against challenging performance management programmes for at least 3 years meeting a full range of key targets and making significant improvements
And for at least 3 years, have worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, to achieve successful outcomes
And successfully demonstrated high level people management, governance and organisational skills for a minimum of 3 years
And hold a full current driving licence valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. (This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post)
