Director of Commercial Development Accountabilities

  • Collaborate on operational oversight and contribute to Strategic Plans as part of the Senior Management Team
  • Develop and evaluate a sustainable Income Generation Strategy, optimising diverse income streams for long-term financial sustainability
  • Lead continuous improvement in income generation, adapting to changing economic and community landscapes
  • Refresh and build the brand through impactful internal and external communications
  • Provide commercial acumen, partnering with leadership for value-driven decision-making
  • Serve as an ambassador, promoting St Rocco’s work and values consistently.

Director of Commercial Development Responsibilities:

Income Generation

  • Develop and deliver a robust and effective income generation strategy across fundraising, supporter care, lottery and retail operations, developing targets and objectives for each work stream that are realistic and achievable, supporting and monitoring progress against key performance indicators, adapting plans as necessary.
  • To lead and work closely with the Chief Executive and Finance Director in the development and maintenance of the Hospice’s business plans, ensuring income targets are met and taking action to respond to any deficit/variance or changing circumstances.
  • To provide effective leadership of the team to deliver all income generation activities, ensuring statutory, corporate, commercial and other fundraising and income generating opportunities are maximised.
  • Track performance to plan and provide clear reporting to the SMT, the Finance Sub Committee, the Shops and Promotions Boards and the Board of Trustees.
  • Act as Licensee for our licence with the Gambling Commission, ensuring that all compliance and reporting requirements are met at all times.

Marketing and Communication

  • Lead and implement the Marketing and Communication plans to maintain and improve the Hospice’s high profile and brand identity to aid community engagement, growth in supporters and promotion of our services
  • Plan, execute and measure 360 degree marketing campaigns in support of strategic and operational priorities
  • Support excellence in employee and volunteer experience through highly effective and compelling communications.
  • Understand and drive the integration of digital and other channels of communications to enhance reach and support.

Volunteer Services

  • Develop and embed a volunteer strategy to ensure that St Rocco’s remains the organisation of choice for those looking to volunteer across our community
  • Ensure that processes and support are in place to deliver an excellent volunteer experience
  • Maximise volunteer recruitment, retention and skills mix to meet the operational objectives of all hospice teams

Commercial Development

  • Develop a deep understanding of Commercial return and value generation across the organisation and work with SMT colleagues to enhance commercial performance
  • Work with leadership colleagues to build commercial understanding and measure commercial performance across all areas, collaboratively developing commercial objectives and performance measures to support the hospice’s strategic objectives.
  • Support the development of Commercial decision making through the development of effective business cases and supporting processes.
  • Oversee the negotiation of Commercial contracts for the services that we deliver across the hospice, ensuring that returns are optimised, risk is well managed and that we achieve our financial and growth targets.

Management and Leadership

  • Provide highly effective leadership across the hospice as part of the integrated Senior Management Team.
  •  Lead the wider team across Commercial Development, ensuring that roles and deliverables are clear and that team members have the support and direction that they need to deliver their objectives and achieve their potential.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, processes and systems to optimise effectiveness across Commercial Development.
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships and partnerships with outside agencies and partner organisations.
  • Work with our people team to ensure that staff and volunteers receive specialised, routine and mandatory training appropriate to their needs and to enable them all to achieve their potential.
  • Provide continuous oversight of the health, safety and wellbeing of team members across Commercial Development and allocate health and safety responsibilities to in accordance with hospice policies and legal requirements.

Director of Commercial Development Qualifications

    • Degree or relevant professional/business qualification
    • Income Generation qualification/experience
    • Member of the Institute of Fundraising
    • Valid driving license and own transport

    • Adaptable interpersonal skills, adept at cultivating relationships and generating income opportunities
    • Strong negotiation abilities, representing St Rocco’s diplomatically with senior contacts
