Job description

Westminster School comprises Westminster School and Westminster Under School, and the subsidiaries and entities under its control. The two schools are part of one charity with one Governing

Body, and are managed by separate Heads (the Head Master and Master, respectively). Westminster School is a selective day and boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18 and girls aged 16 to 18. With approximately 360 boys in the Lower School and 400 boys and girls in the Upper School, of whom around a quarter board, the school is structured and run as a boarding school, with an extended day and week and a strong House-based system of pastoral welfare, for boarding and day pupils alike. Central to the school’s academic ethos is the dialogue between teachers and their pupils, whether in the classroom or in tutorials, inspiring enjoyment of intellectual enquiry, debate and search for explanation and the development of skills of rational, independent thought well beyond any standard examination syllabus. Together with Westminster Under School, currently an independent preparatory school for boys aged 7 to 13 which is due to expand significantly with the addition of a pre-prep and the addition of girls in 2026, the schools form one of the foremost centres of academic excellence both in this country and internationally. By 2030 both schools will become fully coeducational.

The charity that oversees the two schools is now looking to appoint a Director ofStrategy and Operations. This position is a key strategic role at Westminster School and Westminster Under School, straddling both the academic and enabling spheres of school life across the Charity. The post holder will work alongside all members of the Senior Management Committee at Westminster School and the Senior Management Team at the Under School, in order to support the smooth running of operations as well as developing and implementing the long-term strategy for IT infrastructure and digital teaching and learning, including the effective and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding and experienced Digital and Operations professional, who will bring knowledge and understanding of the major issues facing the IT and Digital Sectors,  a general understanding of legislation, especially that linked to IT and digital standards and intervention and a record of effective leadership, management and delivery at a senior level. With outstanding communication, negotiation and influencing skills, they will be able to build credibility and confidence, working collaboratively across the Schools with a shared commitment to the ethos and culture of excellence that distinguishes them.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Westminster School on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference FBMTA.
