At the heart of ICOMAT’s process lies a robotic tape laying system that uses our patented process, Rapid Tow Shearing. The development of the system draws upon multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, robotic, automation and production) and this role will provide technical and performance leadership across the Engineering function.
The Engineering function is comprised of 3 divisions:
- Robotic Heads Development – ensuring the development of state-of-the-art tape laying systems and cells, that incorporate ICOMAT’s RTS process with a focus on driving improvements across process reliability and speed.
- Robotic Heads Build – ensuring the efficient, accurate assembly and commissioning of robotic heads for use internally and externally
- Robotic Head Operation – oversee the efficient, reliable operation of the head to drive production
The role will continually drive innovation in our core engineering disciplines and as the company evolves, it will expand to include other facets of Engineering (i.e. vision systems for inspection, pick-and-place systems), with aim of developing the world’s first light-out factories for composite materials.
What will you be doing?
Leadership and Team Management:
- Develop, structure, manage and inspire the teams that comprise the entire Engineering function.
- Foster a high-performance culture across the engineering function
Project Management:
- Supervise and coordinate complex engineering projects, ensuring they progress from initiation to successful completion while adhering to schedules, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
Engineering Strategy and Execution:
- Develop and implement an engineering strategy in alignment with overarching business objectives, focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Champion engineering excellence by introducing best practices, embracing new technologies, and fostering innovative approaches.
- Monitor and assess engineering processes, workflows, and standards to enhance productivity and reduce risks.
- Optimisation of production layout, providing an identifiable product flow, flexibility to support a portfolio of products and minimisation of transportation, waiting and movement wastes.
Product Development:
- Ensure ICOMAT retains its technical advantage through continual improvement of processes and technology
- Advocate R&D projects that are always in the service of ICOMAT’s vision and technical roadmap
What do we need from you?
- Previous experience as CTO / VP / Head of Engineering at a (relevant) startup or within a rapidly evolving environment
- Strong technical expertise in engineering principles, design, and execution.
- Demonstrated success in managing intricate engineering projects within budget and time constraints.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- A current awareness of emerging engineering trends, technologies, and practices.
We’ve completed multiple technology validation programmes (with the European Space Agency, Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, F1 Teams) and are in the process of executing on the first production opportunities with leading OEMs. We’re edging towards becoming a significant scale-up with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next 2-3 years and expand operations into Europe and the US!
