About the Product:

They have pioneered a hub for utilities, telecoms, rail, and civil engineering sectors. Their Civil Engineering software is a real-time job management tool to reinstate scheduling, via a vibrant mobile app. Delve into the Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) modules, synced with the government’s Street Manager API for seamless permit handling. Their commitment to data security also shines with ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials accreditation, ensuring their clients’ trust.


About the Role:

As the Director of Engineering reporting to the CEO, you will focus on our company’s technological framework, encompassing the development and maintenance of our core infrastructure including cybersecurity, and modern software practices. This role is pivotal in leading our company's digital transformation, ensuring that our infrastructure and systems are not only robust but also agile and adaptive to the evolving digital landscape. It involves strategic oversight and hands-on involvement in enhancing our cybersecurity posture, safeguarding our systems against emerging threats. Another key aspect of this role is transitioning our technological framework towards a microservices architecture, enabling more modular and scalable solutions.

Furthermore, the Director of Engineering will spearhead the implementation and refinement of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices, ensuring a seamless and efficient pipeline for software development and deployment. An additional critical responsibility is the integration and management of advanced monitoring software, designed to autonomously identify and rectify system anomalies, optimizing our operational efficiency and capacity management. This role is not just about maintaining our technology infrastructure; it's about innovating and leading our technology strategy to stay ahead in a rapidly changing digital world.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership Excellence: Direct a diverse, high-performing team, fostering an environment of engagement and excellence to meet departmental and company objectives.
  • Infrastructure Advocacy: Act as the executive champion for various infrastructure functions, driving multi-year strategies and continuously evolving infrastructure to reduce technical debt and support business needs. Ensure alignment between infrastructure and software architecture, enabling easy scaling without downtime, stability and fit-for-purpose platform across AWS and Azure.
  • Strategic Influence: Guide other departments in understanding technical solutions, defining ROI, and keeping abreast of industry-leading technologies for adaptive solutions.
  • Risk Management: Uphold the company’s commitment to risk management, focusing on system and data security, integrity, and availability.
  • Innovative Platform Management: Transition the platform from legacy coding to a Microservice architecture with self-healing capabilities.
  • Security-Centric Architecture: Assess and align platform architecture with a focus on security, scalability, and performance, including penetration testing.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage and evaluate budgets for existing infrastructure maintenance and new product development.
  • KPI Management: Define and measure KPIs for resource allocation and reporting, aligning with business objectives.
  • Technological Vigilance: Stay current with emerging technologies and market trends to identify growth opportunities.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work effectively across different teams to align and drive innovations.


Requirements:

  • 8 years plus years of experience managing product, engineering, development, and architecture teams within a SaaS environment.
  • Proven success leading organisations with scalable products and experience in designing and developing for deployment.
  • Extensive experience in defining and applying architectural principles to business solutions with emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency in reading software development languages (C#, Angular, JavaScript and .Net Script).
  • Solid understanding of cyber security principles, frameworks, and industry standard practices
  • Vast experience across CI/CD and Microservice architectures within a SaaS environment.
  • An expert in transitioning legacy platforms to new architecture, whilst integrating both future and legacy platforms. With the following technologies is a bonus: Azure functions, Azure APIM, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Adept at planning, organising, and coordinating research activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, resource allocation, and milestone tracking.
