Job description

Fundraising is critical in order to deliver incredible change on the ground, where we can have greatest impact in supporting all children with disability and their families.  This is a key role aimed at growing scalable and sustainable support for our mission.  We have a long and celebrated history of delivering world-class fundraising events from our renowned Butterfly Ball in London, to cycle challenges in Monaco and golf tournaments in Loch Lomond; our events have generated £millions of fundraising income on their own but also, crucially, served as cultivation for some of the Charity’s most important supporters.

Never standing still, we are seeking a dynamic, creative and passionate Director of Events and Fundraising to continue to push the Charity’s events and fundraising portfolio forward to support the exciting development of the Charity’s services.

As an inspirational leader, the post holder will manage a team of 7 dedicated events and fundraising colleagues with the opportunity to grow the team in line with the success of your delivery.

A corporate/commercial approach is a necessity in our customer-focussed culture; ensuring our stakeholders experience the best customer service and the desire to continue to support the Charity long after events have ended.  An astute management of each event’s P&L will be required to deliver a minimum ROI of 3:1 across the portfolio.  Success will be monitored annually by the Trustee Board against KPI’s including income growth, ROI and market share.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Events are a part of Caudwell Children’s DNA and the single largest income generator in the Charity’s fundraising department.  Therefore, there will be a specific focus on maintaining and developing this important department.
  • Identify opportunities and grow diverse income lines to support the Charity’s expanding service delivery.
  • Build income from supporters in the community by sharing the work of Caudwell Children and motivating groups to support our vision.
  • Strategic management and development of the Charity’s income generation, playing a pivotal part in taking the Charity to the next level.
  • Oversee the main public-facing fundraising activity for the Charity.
  • Represent the Charity and build strong relationships across different sectors driving forward opportunities.
  • Provide strategic leadership and tactical supervision to a growing team of fundraisers.
  • Responsible for developing three designated teams of fundraising colleagues (Trusts & Foundations, Public Sector Funding, Earned Income and Trading Income will sit under the Chief Operating Officer as predominantly service-linked income streams):
    • Individual Giving (Team size: 3)
      • (Wills & Legacy, Regular Gifts / Direct Debit, Major Gifts, Raffle/Lottery, Payroll Giving)
    • Corporate Fundraising (Team size: 4)
      • (Sponsorship, Charity Of The Year, Licensing, Cause-Related Marketing, Match-Funding, Gifts In Kind, Royalties / Profit Share)
    • Community Fundraising (Team size: 6)
      • (Events, Challenges, Mass Participation, Street Collections)
  • Develop a robust and diverse fundraising portfolio across several designated income strands.
  • Secure sponsorship across the full portfolio by recruiting high value sponsors, delivering on agreed outcomes and maximising profit.
  • Generate increasing levels of fundraising income year-on-year whilst also maintaining and strengthening established income lines.
  • Develop the required infrastructure, resource and ‘products’ to begin growing market share over the medium to long term.
  • Reporting to the CEO and fellow Directors regularly on strategy and performance.
  • Monthly reporting to the Trustee Board and regular ad-hoc correspondence with Trustees.

Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience in fundraising/sales/business development management.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the charity sector and professional fundraising.
  • Enthusiastic advocate of business planning and sales management.
  • Considerable experience and competence in planning, developing and managing the operations of a successful sales/fundraising team.
