Class-leading governance and a robust legal service underpin everything we do. This role is at the heart of our journey towards excellence, and you’ll be building on strong foundations. Leading an expert team and commissioning external support when required, you’ll provide high quality and outcome-focused advice to colleagues and Cabinet. Moreover, you’ll run a complex directorate which delivers a number of key services to the council, including discharging the duties of the Monitoring Officer.

We are building a strong legal and democratic function that will set the benchmark, but there’s still plenty to do, and you must understand how to continue and accelerate our improvement programme. An adept relationship builder and an exemplar of personal and professional integrity, you’ll rapidly gain the trust and respect of everyone you encounter – within and beyond the council.
