Director of People and Operations
We are looking for a Director of People and Operations to join a vibrant and brave grassroots organisation led by Gypsy and Traveller people in West Yorkshire.

Location: Leeds LS9
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £40,808
Contract: Maternity Cover until the 1st June 2025

The Role
You will be joining a vibrant and brave grassroots organisation led by Gypsy and Traveller people in West Yorkshire. The overall aim is to improve the quality of life for Gypsies and Travellers through addressing inequalities in homes, health, education, and employment, financial and social inclusion.
You will be a key part of the experienced Senior Leadership Team working closely with our CEO and the Director of Development. This is a fast paced role at the heart of the organisation.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide comprehensive operational and human resources management to the organisation
- Ensure that staff have the supporting tools and frameworks to deliver their work
- In supporting our core functions, ensure safety and compliance across all of our work.
- Support the organisation to develop new governance and structures as opportunities arise
- Work with the Community Centre Coordinator to ensure the building continues to comply with occupational health and safety standards
- Ensure compliance with GDPR in our data management processes
- Ensure training is kept relevant and up to date
- Provide line management support
- Manage relationships with external suppliers/consultants
The team are also in the process of redesigning the layout of the building which will be refurbished in the next 18 months. For that reason we are also interested in candidates who have project management experience in Operations.
The role will be underpinned by the charity’s values in particular, that people should be safe and that everyone is equal and can be included.
About You
We are looking for someone who has experience of:
- Working in an organisational management position in civil society organisation
- Managing and motivating teams
- Working with communities or individuals experiencing marginalisation, harm or trauma
- Project Management
- Organisational strategy development and implementation
